I'm in the same boat, but not with nicotine so I can't be of too much help.

BUT I can help with the explaining to your partner part. I decided to bring it up because I felt like in a way, withholding such a big part of myself from him would be sort of like lying to him and it made me feel guilty.

So I brought it up like "Hey I want to tell you something about myself and what I'm struggling with, and I hope you'll be receptive," and then talked about how it started. Then we lightly brushed upon some things that could help me,  like I tell him anytime I do that habit so he is at least aware.

I think that is a good first step to self and couple awareness at least, and if they're a worthy person who loves you they'll 100% wanna support you, not put you down or minimize anything.

Good luck

when i stopped with an addiction/got it under control, i swapped the thing i was addicted to, with something that had SOMETHING in common with the thing i was addicted to, kind of. like, lol, when i stopped smoking, i started drinking a lot of coke instead, since it kind of gave a "high", yet not a similar one ofc, and when i quit soda, i started drinking sprinkling water, like, a lot, because the bubbles made it feel like a luxury and kind of helped with the craving and also was a bit less expensive which made it more worth than just me trying to be healthy lol

idk i think the only addiction that was hard to beat was that to coke/soda, and it took around a week before it felt okay to live without it, and now i feel so greatful to not be addicted to it, so, try to think about that. how good it will feel

also, maybe try to set smaller goals? like
ok now i'm just gonna go 3 days without it. just 3. i can do that? and then u can see if u want to smoke/whatever again or if you can keep going another day. if u smoke, then do that for a while before you try to go for 3 days again, or maybe 4 days if the last time didn't feel too hard y'know?

Some folks need a combination of temporary meds to get through the withdrawal period.

Nicotine free snus
Long walks, walk whenever, literally just took a walk whenever i felt the urge
Sleepaid, but i still literally didnt sleep for two weeks, real zombie
And whatever snack i wanted whenever i craved it, better than nicotine and figured that sugaraddiction would be a problem for a later time zzz
Gum
Also, motivational app that showed how much money i saved per day and tracked progress, alterted me w interesting facts, etc

It took 4-5 weeks if i remember correctly, thats when it was finally out of my system

Best of luck to you, I'm hopeful!

Withdrawals can be painful, and even dangerous depend on the substance. My friend said her clients coming off alcohol suffered more than those coming off meth - if that puts it into perspective for you. It's not a weakness, you're suffering.

melatonin may help you sleep? Though the dosage always says to use like 2-5mg and I definitely need closer to 20 mg lol
