it's like anyone who knows me for more than a day will inevitably have their perception of themselves and their reality picked away like a hundred little scabs because I ask shit like this
and I worry that folks think I like...view myself as smarter than them? but really I'm just trying to understand them better, and just secretly hoping their brains work the same way mine does - and they never do.

If people are not used to it, it might take a while to get into it. One thing is asking yourself those questions. Another is being asked by someone else out of the blue. I would be up for it, but a lot wouldn't. You said it yourself, they might simply not be your people. I hope you find your people.
