I've definitely had friends slip into the weird spiritual side of doing acid. I have some theories regarding folks religious upbringing, education, natural level of intelligence, etc - in regards to the kind of experiences they have on LSD (or even deeper, the kind of hallucinations schizophrenic folks have)

Like I've done probably 100+ hits over my adult life, with so many different people - and there's definitely like, folks who get really interested in nature, folks who get really interested in the psychology and understanding how the drug affects their body, and then the folks who absolutely lose themselves in a very scary spiritual world (and they are ALWAYS folks who were raised christian)

I had took a LOT once, 6 hits that I was later told were 2-2.5 strength, so anywhere from 12-18 "hits" whatever that's actually supposed to mean.
And at that amount it's...not the same drug, it really is a whole other thing. And I think that's when folks have those "spiritual experiences" because I kind-of did? I felt like there was some answer to be "reached" (floating heads were speaking to me, telling me to follow them "up" - I could not open my eyes because it was so overstimulating) and I could only "get there" by continuing to take more, but I eventually had the revelation (a few trips later) that the "answer" to reach at the end was "there is no answer"
like the hippies always told me - "it's the only drug that will tell you to stop doing drugs"
