my therapist asked me if I don't understand social rules or if I just don't agree with them and whooooaaa buddy I cannot answer that, I have no idea.

How about you?

what's the context? for me it depends heavily on the social rule

i guess generally i understand etiquette and choose not to respect it

context is potential for undiagnosed autism

i don't understand them

Anytime anyone ever tries to explain those rules to me it feels like a big "because I said so" argument.

It's like maths for me, I know it's really important and I know the basics and I really tried in high school, but after all that I still couldn't wrap my head around it.

i dont understand most of them, and theres a split 50-50 if i agree with those i understand or not. it just doesnt make any sense to me, even those i like that benefit me lol. i mean, who decided that i cant scream at the top of my lungs in public?

I think I understand most of them, but whether I agree with them or not is a whole different question. It's a choice I make when it comes to following them or not, but it obviously depends on context.

It's like I can follow them for a while but after about like, a month or two trying to do that in a workplace I fucking crack under it all and can't anymore and then get fired lol

Hmm, what kind of rules are we talking about here though?

what is and isn't appropriate workplace discussion
criticism of the workplace...at work
fucking small talk is excruciating but I want friends so I'm always trying to dig way too deep into folks lives and asking things that may not be appropriate but I don't realize it in the moment
talking too much and being able to tell when folks aren't interested, or when I've overshared
how to or not to "sit" appropriately or "dress" appropriately in an office setting
I'm really blunt and rude - or at least folks have told me I am, and I am always far too late in recognizing it and hurt peoples feelings
everything feels stupid and unfair
as of right now most of this is being categorized under ADHD impulsivity, which makes a lot of sense to me.

Same?
like the fact that folks can just sit back and comply without ever questioning why things are the way they are, or without ever pointing out things that are unfair is really weird to me.
Like I find that I feel...physical pain? when I try to act like a normal human who engages in small talk and ignores unfair workplace dynamics.
