We observed that a tragic weather activity would take our planet out (like an earth volcano, but far more destructive) - and so we spent the last 3 generations documenting our knowledge, building better ships, and exploring the galaxy for a new planet. We're currently inhabiting a planet we found completely empty, but that once clearly had a thriving society on it - stone buildings, books, whole neighborhoods, abandoned and overgrown with space-plants, and no trace of life...We're still trying to figure what wiped them out, or drove them off of the planet. Our species documents and keeps knowledge alive, and this felt like a natural fit - one whole planet of an archaeological dig.
