I think it's a good idea to get a coat of something on top of it but not necessarily full on nail varnish cos feels counterproductive even tho the nail varnish would have the base coat layer between it and the nail
also depending on how deep the shaved bit is it'll be visible when you put nail varnish on like diff heights
