interesting observations on ADHD meds

My severe tics are (almost) totally gone?
which like, they only bothered me because I have chronic spine/neck issues and I kept legitimately injuring myself when my tics would get real bad.
Anyways I thought they were from having issues so close to my spinal cord but apparently it was just the good ol' ADHD lol

I also have been able to go on dates and to job interviews without totally oversharing and humiliating myself in front of strangers, so that's cute.

Still can't get a single goddamned fucking thing done though, and that's less cute.

anyone else  currently on a medication journey

I also can't sleep unless I spend the day being super active
which is very hard being as physically unwell as I am lol

Are you on Adderall or another brand/generic using the same active ingrediant?

She would have preferred to start me on Vyvanse but because I'm self employed and I lose insurance on-and-off so frequently I wouldn't be able to afford it when my medicaid goes away.

Ah, so I looked into it bc I was confused thinking you said ADHD causes tics.
Tics can be a side effect of Adderall. If it continues to be an issue for you I'd suggest looking into the other type of ADHD meds, the most well known name being Ritalin, but there's also Focalin and I'm sure some others.

Oh no I mean I had the tics before the adderall and the frequency and severity has probably gone down by like 80% since I started medication.

My genetic test said the class of drugs ritalin and focalin are in wouldn't be super effective for me.

Oh, ok gotcha. Interesting that it helps with that somewhat too.
Other than that I have little experience with Adderall myself. I've been on the generic for Focalin since I was diagnosed at 15.

I've heard great things about focalin, my doctor said it probably wouldn't be like, totally awful for me, but since I had genetic markers that show it'd likely be less-effective, she started me on adderall (unfortunately there's really no way to determine on a genetic test how the adderall class will effect folks yet)

tbh I just think my dose isn't high enough, I can tell it helps with some things, but other symptoms are legit getting worse
like the anxiety is way down, but my anxiety kept my forgetfulness in check

oh nice that it's been working so well for you !
im not on meds and i dont think they'd really help with executive dysfunction or moving sleep schedule n those are my biggest adhd related issues that actually bother me
but the good thing is my life gets drastically better the more i learn abt adhd n my traits n how to deal with them and i've already come to terms with the fact that i can't be studying or working daily for the next few years (or all my life idk i heard executive dysfunction gets better the older u get but sleep issues r kinda chronic)

10mg is a bit low for adhd meds. A good starting point to see how it affects you though.
I can't remember right off the bat, but mine is either 20 or 30mg.

Idk if your doc mentioned it, but a lil warning from someone who's been on the stuff for like 7 years. If you forget a dose you may not feel so great. I think it has to do with developing a bit of a dependence to the meds.

It helped with the executive dysfunction for about three days and then just totally stopped, which they told me could happen with the low dose.

My executive dysfunction has gotten worse as I've gotten older, actually. But I also was only officially diagnosed a few months ago.

Within the first week I had a few days where, I wouldn't say I had "blackouts" but I'd totally blank on some events from the day.

I really dont understand why in the US and some other places continue to prescript adderall or similars. Like i've seen videos of people under the influence of adderall and i dont really think it is good for the body and the brain, it feels like they are on drugs.

I take Rubifen and it works quite well, but you need to take it everyday. I was diagnosed when I was 9 and honetly if it werent for the medication (and of course hard work) I wouldn't have been able to go to uni. Now I take what my neurologist calls a "baby dose", as little as possible, and I'm doing quite well at uni. And of course I dont have big tick problems.
