my casual body hair positivity observation
Private

i have never* seen anyone with any particularly noticeably large amount of body hair publicly, actively participating in a body hair positivity thing, whether thats videos online or informational posts or whatever it may be
and i specifically mean in social media

have u noticed anything similar? do u think it means anything? do u think its weird and counter productive to even notice that to begin with? do u have any thought on body hair positivity?

*the one exception is that one woman on tiktok with a full beard but i feel like having one singular exception still means the rule hold ups

sometimes i wonder is this bc these r the ppl who dont have enough bodyhair to feel ashamed enough of it or maybe just the ones who get noticed enough on the internet for it to gain traction and then i wonder does it actually matter at the end of the day, progress is progress right? am i being the weird one for thinking about it

I've seen many women who don't remove their body hair participate in the whole social media body positivity thing. It's probably because men don't have enough of a space in that movement, like, most body positivity discussion are about fat women, women with body hair, bald women, women with mastectomies etc, I don't see much talk about men, or endies, for that matter, in body positivity, which, as a chubby guy with dark body hair, it kind of sucks.

no definitely same and it makes me insecure bc i've like never seen any women with as much body hair as i have, and i don't shave bc i really don't want to but every summer i feel worse about it since like. no one else looks like me. or i guess if they do they shave. and i have like zero understanding of what's even normal when it comes to body hair lol

it's because most have never seen a woman unshaven so any amount of hair is seen as a lot. shaving does nothing for you and just helps normalizing the idea that body hair is shameful or dirty on women.
it's counter productive to highlight shaven women as a beauty standard since .... they're not acting on their actual real behalf, but rather have been conditioned to do so.
it's body hair. it's there for a reason. it's natural. that's it.

And the body hair being in focus doesn't HELP tbh, but its not the main factor of it being gross

I feel like it acc could be tho, cus a lot of the ppl sharing their body hair online I see, has very sparse hair growth tbh, or blonde hairs, and they (and their supporters)  think its "gross" when ppl have more hair or more noticeable dark hair

right same im sitting here like
is secret envy the only reason i notice this at all even tho i dont have much issues w the amount of body hair i have
like ppl in videos n pics lift their arms for "shock value" ig n its like, ok theres some hair there. realistically u could count it
but i havent shaved my underarm in like 2 weeks and u cannot even SEE the skin in it, its just dense dense hair like i have never seen on anyone doing these types of posts

n idk if its connected ot not or just coincidence or maybe most ppl just dont have that much hair

r ppl with a lot of dense bodyhair too insecure to or not interested in making this type of content, or does it not get accepted by the public when they DO bc its just Too Much to be The Accepted Kind or is it coincidence and everything is always coincidence

Body positivity Instagram is a lie, those people are conventionally attractive in any way except that 1 thing

I'm my own body hair positivity thing every time I wear shorts lol don't need social media to normalize shit, you need real life

I don't pay much attention to any positivity movements because they are going to install a belief in me that makes me head out in the wrong direction because my mind twists and catastrophizes things - and, I don't really care much for it. Just let me hermit, and live my life without having to problematize everything on social media. Whatever seems to be close to normalized there, never has any hold close to that in Norway. I keep seeing themes and issues I read about from US\UK two years earlier, pop up today and being the "first time" my older family members hears about it, and it makes a clear case to normalizing anything on the idea of a "global" scale online has a small effect at rubbing over to your local contemporary. Obviously, exceptions, but this is how I experience it.

Having said that, I have seen some people with body hair in public, but not many, and not that I'm expecting it as I rarely see a variety of new people. For myself, I'm just a lazy shaver. I will put in some extra effort to cover the bare minimum like bikini lines, armpits, and legs during summer, and during winter it will mostly just grow for a few months unless I gotta wear something where I know it's going to make me uncomfortable. It's just there and I'll do whatever I feel like when I feel like it.

I have seen enough people on social media and irl with body hair positivity, personally I don't engage in it because I don't like body hair, it grosses me out, especially on myself. It's not because it's "not the beauty standard" but more because I don't like the feeling of hair anywhere except on ur head/eyebrows. Even on men, I hate seeing body hair, especially armpits lol, but I wouldn't call someone for it, that's degrading.
