now that christmas is coming up

heres a friendly reminder:

if you get something for someone that they never even wished for and they never put use to it for whatever reason, dont nag them about it, dont make them feel bad about it, dont mention it if your purpose is to let them know youre disappointed. they never asked for it, so even though you gifted them with love, you cant expect them to like it or have a reason to use it.

just needed to say this BECAUSE
for my birthday two years ago my brother gave me a speaker, even though i expressed multiple times that i dont want a speaker and have no use for it. he likes to play his music out loud and thought i needed a speaker so i could do the same. i absolutely hate when people can hear my music or whatever, so i have no reason to want a speaker. he knew this and still gave me a speaker. i never use it. and every so often the topic of that damn speaker will come up and hes like "you never even use it, i might as well take it back" and blaming me for never using it and acts all offended ??

AND

some years ago my mom got me some hand knitted socks and theyre pretty neat but they look EXACTLY like the socks my ex used to wear all the time and he traumatized the shit out of me. i cant look at those sock without thinking of my ex, so theyre hidden in the very back of my closet. recently my mom was like "you never wear those socks i once gave you : (" and i had to pretend i forgot about them and said i would wear them soon but i really dont want to.

just like please dont be like this ok its not to be ungrateful but sometimes its like that ok goodbye

man I needed to read this lmao
I have a trauma with just RECEIVING gifts in general mostly because of that fear of disappointing someone but also because my brain tied gifts with a bad emotion so it's just a mess for me

I'd rather give something or not do anything at all

And this is why I always ask what people want...or give them something that won't last long (except in memories). like I bake for them, I make 3 course meal, take them to movies etc.

im just tired of forced gifts. like its christmas so now i have to find something to give to several people and i have to come up with things i want. i like it better when i randomly stumble upon something and know i wanna give this for that special person. forced gifts makes me tired and anxious

u could always start looking for christmas gifts at the start of the year
like not actively looking, but collecting things u find throughout the year that reminds you of the ppl u wanna gift it to, so that when december comes around, not only do you not have to stress abt getting christmas gifts weeks before christmas, but the gifts themselves have been carefully picked out by you for reminding you of them, not as a chore because you have to

my family hates this, but I keep telling them that they might as well share the costs and buy one thing on my wishlist and buy 3 things that isn't on it. it's not about the number of gifts at all.

or give me cash. which is another thing they don't like to do. at least they wanna give you giftcards but those are so limiting.

Surprisingly many people buy gifts they'd want to receive themselves.

Also why don't you tell your mom
