the left's appetite for violence

I'm in the mood to be controversial again, yes.

I read this really interesting article (that I now can't find but it was in german anyway) about a concerning trend of bloodlust in certain leftist circles, where violence isn't seen as a necessary evil but where people actually cheer for torture and needless suffering as long as it happens to the 'right people'.

It's nothing new, people went to beheadings and witch hangings for entertainment, but we pride ourselves to be more developed than that.

There is also a trend of threatening violence online too (death threats included).
I have seen it a lot on ES (wild, we can say this now), someone once suggested to me that they will stomp me to death because I told them death threats ain't cute.
Even with all the layers of irony and sarcasm the internet has to offer, I still don't think it's okay actually?

Maybe I'm a softie or whatever but someone enjoying real life violence  is a big ass red flag for me.

There's always been a bit split in the left regarding who wants violence, and who doesn't. I've argued with comrades plenty of times that I don't believe that violence is the answer, not even when it comes to nazis, and therefore been called a "fake anarchist" (As if anarchism is inherently violent.)

People like this are not emotionally regulated enough to navigate through political discussions.

Yes but it's not even about wanting it or needing it but enjoying it

I wouldn't say that's only an issue in the left, it's also very much an issue in the right.

But maybe it's more extreme in Germany, the german police/ government is trying to tear down all anarchist squats currently, so generally speaking, I think the German leftists are angrier than most currently. Not that that excuses enjoying violence, that's gross no matter what.

They forcefully removed some squatters on private houses, that's true. Those groups are rather small though and there is a lot of infighting in the german left, especially in politics (the left party was recently criticized for not speaking up against putin, rightfully so because fuck sarah wagenknecht)
It's all very disorganized and shadowy at the moment, which profits the conservative parts of the country.

The german left has a lot of history compared to other countries, nowadays it lost its focus on worker's rights unfortunately. We have this super stupid debate about gender-neutral language at the moment instead of people not being able to afford a house despite working 40hrs a week.

From the protest my friends and I went to in Berlin, it was Köpi platz, before that it was Liebeg (spelling?) Those were both established leftist places, not private housing. I believe Rigaer is next, sadly.

This is why the regular right leaning ppl don't like leftists and the regular left leaning ppl don't like far right ppl, both far leaning sides are moronic actually
