i LOVE learning languages and i think that i'm quite good at them but i only speak two fluently - english (native) and italian, and my italian is already declining because i haven't really used it since i left italy because of the pandemic...
i've dabbled in sooo many like french japanese german finnish chinese but because i don't have a strong motivation to keep learning them i eventually get distracted and move onto another language
do people find the same thing? has anyone here ever learnt a language to an advanced level that they didn't need to know? (i.e. english, or moving countries, or a second language of your country) and if yes HOW DID YOU FOCUS
i'm gonna try and get back into japanese this time for real

welsh is such a beautiful language! 
if i ever move to wales for work or family then i will definitely learn it
i mean i also want to learn it regardless but as i've just explained i would probably spend a week on it and then get distracted

i know a fair bit of russian which i mostly taught myself but there was a cultural aspect to it too - a lot of ppl in lithuania speak russian, my parents speak it n grew up watching russian cartoons etc which theyd show me as a child. plus i love history n especially russian history, so that was part of it too

currently im learning spanish ! my boyfriend is south american so thats obviously the biggest motivation lol. n its very powerful motivation, considering i spend a lot of time w his family who only really speak spanish lol. im finding that im learning a lot and rly fast - i watch a lot of spanish TV shows w him too w english subtitles which is helping me learn even quicker lmao

w both russian n spanish, i have people close to me who r fluent. so w russian i would ask my mum for explanations abt grammar etc n w spanish i ask my boyfriend questions. they both speak it to me sometimes too to help me
