do you believe in therapy?

therapy as in talking to a so called professional about your problems

you always hear people to advice others to seek therapy, your life will get better if you start opening up, don't keep all your feelings inside, a therapist can help you etc. but does it actually work?

feel free to share personal experiences if you want

If you are unable to see what your own problems are, then yes. If u need fresh eyes on smth, then yes. If u need emotional support or whatever, then yes. If u know what is wrong and how technically to fix it already then no.

i've been told by both family and strangers to seek professional help (unwarranted mind you since i never bring these topics up) but my theory is that therapy is a sort of placebo. if you believe it will work, then it will. but if you're more cynical person, it will not.

intentions are everything. just like if you give some rose quartz to an open minded person, the crystals may very well make them feel more loving towards themself and others. another person wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this 'magical stone' and an everyday stone found in some random waters.

i would be more open-minded to the idea of therapy if it didn't involve money and dependence, but of course nothing's free in this world

true in a way, of course it won't work if you're not willing to talk/change your ways/learn
you must be willing to work on yourself and towards the healing process if you want therapy to work

i think everyone would WANT therapy to work, of course, but it's just a matter of whether you are able to actually believe in it or not. but i always found it strange how quick these sessions would lead to talks about medications before giving anything else a proper chance. is it more important to heal a person or drug them, making them dependent on the system?

what's going to make more money, since unfortunately everything revolves around money

a sick person who is able to overcome their troubles naturally, a so called short-time patient

or a sick person who is now addicted to drugs and dependent on regular visits in pure desperation?

another interesting thing to think about is that therapist themselves need therapists. i mean, if i'm a mechanic, i wouldn't take my car to another mechanic. i would just fix the thing by myself since i'm qualified to do so

i believe its good for a lot of people yes, but in my opinion its too normalised now to just tell people to go to therapy. you shouldnt need therapy for normal human emotions that everyone experience, this is what friends and family is for - talking about feelings, being open about things that bother you and work through it together. people seem to think therapy = a cure to whatever you struggle with which it definitely does not. therapy can teach you how to cope with feelings when you feel like you cant figure this out on your own, and if you have trauma/very bad thoughts that you cannot speak with friends or family about then it can be good to have a therapist to open up to. in the end youre the one doing the work you think needs to be done

I don't think you can comb everyone under the same comb, or how every that one goes. So yea, i believe it works for some, but not for others.

yes... there's enough objective data about how successful psychotherapy is in treating mental problems so i don't think i need to share my personal experience to back it up. but yes it was really helpful for me, sucks that i can't get more of it.

i'm doing a thesis abt mental health care for teens, and for my thesis i interview social workers who work with these teens every day. they're all very very sad abt the current state of mental health care, all the wait lists, and that they can't help their clients as fast as possible
i think there are very little health care workers who want you to be ill and stay ill :/ most ppl who work in mental health care do it because they want to help ppl, not because they want a lot of money, bc their job doesn't pay that well. therapists don't get more money if they get you on meds, or if you visit more often. they have an hourly wage that gets paid no matter all that, and more than enough ppl on the waiting list that they could help after you
