I remember we had positive discrimination in our sociology class on our a-levels
we were all a bit on the fence about it
like it seems like a nice idea in and of itself, but it just helps pushing a divide further and doesn't abolish the systems that prevents discriminated groups to climb in a social capacity - it just forces people to let in a tiny percentage of them and then keep the oppressive systems running in a show of token sympathy
yeah I suppose it can like do some good but the close minded white men r not gonna change their mind when someone is forced into a position they wanted someone else to be in
exactly
it just forces them by law to accept someone in between their ranks and won't stop their discriminative behaviour or keeping up systems that prevent others from getting anything positive out of it
that has been an issue with the female quota in a bunch of countries (I think it's a EU law that x% of people in the ceo range of companies of a certain size have to be female) and it just ended up with women getting added in because they had to by law but then they were harrassing those women even worse than they did before, because they didn't want them on board
and that's basically what can happen with any other group of people
I think there are areas where it's not as impactfull on individuals (like for instance with the university admissions, x% of pupils have to be from other countries, so if you apply and your grades aren't as good as those from the people from the same country, you are only competing with the grades of people from other countries that also want to apply there. so you could get easier into a certain university with less grade competition)
yep
