Did you do anything where you could have bruised a rib? Did you fall, bump against something very hard,...? It takes a lot of force to bruise a rib while you can pull your muscle by staying in a certain position too long (I usually pull a muscle when I fall asleep in a bad position yikes).

I got a huge coughing fit while laying on the side at the beginning of last week which started it off. (coughing until u fuck w ur jaw and gag sort of cough.) It was manageable, but I noticed it in some positions - laying on the side especially. Now, I've been laying sick in the sofa for weeks and I sat a bit side heavy a moment ago and coughed  like once (i don't cough as much as i used to anymore) that literally made me unable to move without pain. It feels much like a pulled muscle as it moves when I cough and I need to use it to cough too. So i am uncomfy rn

If it was caused by a coughing fit then a pulled muscle is far more likely.
that's the most painful place for it too, can you get muscle relaxers?

I am not sure how getting prescriptions works where you live, but I'd call a dr and see if they could call in a mild muscle relaxer to the pharmacy because this sounds so painful, and its so hard to heal a muscle spasm when you can't relax. They'll usually just call it in without a visit it if it's not a controlled substance.

I get chronic muscle spasms and between my TPI appts the pain clinic has me use muscle relaxers, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen all together, since they all help with different parts of the spasms.

They barely will take me in bc i have covid symptoms, and normally they don't do shit on stuff like this. Also, i have big anxiety for medicine stuff so its a gamle every time like if ill keep calm or panick about whatever i am taking. Which is why we do tiger balm.

I def understand medicine anxiety, I avoided muscle relaxers and sleeping pills for years because I live alone and was afraid what'd happen with no one here. It turned out okay, but I definitely understand.

If you can take a hot epsom salt bath, some regular ibuprofen/tylenol (either small doses together, or alternating full doses every 6 hours), and then alternate heating pad and ice pack every 20 mins, you might find some relief faster.

I don't like to play VP doctor but my whole life is one big muscle spasm, so I can't keep my mouth shut - I hope you feel better soon.

I get muscle spasms in my upper back a lot, and sometimes they get bad enough its tight in my chest and its awful painful.
