me either I have to drive 25 mins to work
and they've cut my hours to 11 a week and I was told "if you want more hours you can go to another store" and I live rurally so stores are like, an hour apart.

and funny how my hours went even lower (8 for a whole week) with the first schedule to come out after I opened a case for disability accomodations.

I looked at all my previous tax returns to find out I've never made more than 10k in a year (aside from the year I was on pandemic unemployment), in my entire adult life.
I do not know how I've survived.

OH
except last year
where I broke 10k on being a self employed artist
which is also not a lot of money at all but I made it doing what I enjoy, working way less hours
like if I'm gonna live in poverty I might as well do it on my own terms lol

I mean I make $12/hr and drive 25 minutes
I used to have to drive an hour to make $12/hr at the distillery
both suck, but living where I do, theres not much that pays over minimum wage ($7.25) without driving 30 mins or more

my town is getting one eventually, but that's years off.
I got the job at sbux because it's the only place that offers health insurance for part-timers, (and I am disabled, and need insurance) and you only need 20-hours a week to qualify, and they dont give me that.

You would think so.
But the things they demand from us for the tiny amount of money we get...not worth it.
Upper management always coming up with new shit to torture us, customers being like totall asshats most of the time blaming us for things we can't do anything about..

If it says anything, I left same time with a friend and one followed right after, two left to study something else. And around the area 4 stores lost a lot of people at same time.

our sales are HIGHER yet corporate is forcing our SMs to cut hours.
We have like, 2/3 the staff any given shift, yet we're expected to provide the same level of speed and service
I have effectively told them to go fuck themselves I'm not pushing my body past its limits for any corporation, let alone one only paying me 12 bucks - and I'm encouraging my coworkers to do the same.

if we don't get help - drinks go out slower, and either they accept that, or they let us staff more people.
if we keep trying to meet those demands, then we just show them we're willing to work harder for no further compensation. Fuck that

after taxes, my job at starbucks pretty much only covers one bill.
the rest is my art shit and savings.

I'm likely going to apply for disability because the longer I work here the more I realize I'm too unwell for the kind of jobs available to me where I live. (& due to being dramatically low-income my whole life, I don't even qualify for $600/month in disability, so I'd still have to work some)

This exactly!
We were good for selling stuff, we knew what do. Still there were usually 2 people working at same time and when one had a break...the other one was alone. You couldn't do anything properly then. We would have only needed one extra pair of hands to get everything done...and what do we get? Busy evenings or long days without breaks.
I worked for about 10€/h which is ridiculously low for everything I did. Left and they asked later on how the experience was there. Oh did i tell them every shitty detail in that survey. Some person must have had fun to read it.

I have way more chill jobs now and pays more.

I want every customer to know that every starbucks has to break health and safety codes to meet the standards of the company
your refreshers very likely have fruit flies in them
our floor drains can't get cleaned regularly, theres must mold everywhere
we just wipe shit down, we don't "clean" much of anything
hand washing every ten minutes? yeah right, try every 2 hours
our buckets of sanitizer water we use to wipe things down are literally brown and cloudy all day because we have no time to change them

I'm at an INCREDIBLY high traffic drive-thru store, like, easily 10k+ in sales a day. It literally never stops. I have never had a spare minute to take care of jack shit.
Our weekly orders just sit in the lobby because they don't give us enough noncoverage hours to put it away
