make your own soap

i want to make my own soap but it seems that the necessary things (silicone mold, cutter and lye) costs atleast 600 SEK when i try to find the things online. has anyone made their own soap bars and did u manage to find the materials for a more affordable price?? or any diy advice ?

sincerely

mm i havent, there was a while when i was a bit tempted, but not enugh to justify buying anything. If i were you id start with doing some melt and pour soaps to keep the cost down and the move on to the lye stuff? cause im pretty sure thats gonna be cheaper?

i guess i shouldn't be too picky, i was kinda wanting to use these kinds of things but that's probably why the price is way up there

yes i've done my own soap! but i bought already made soap that i melted down because making soap from scratch is hard!

i don't really remember where i bought i from, but i remember that i bought like 1 kg of soap, colors, scents and a mold made from silicon. i think it was a bit expensive but fun for sure!

i also bought ipa 90 (some kind of alcohol) that you spray on top of the soap so the bubbles dissapears! not harmful for the skin or anything and makes the soap prettier

aah that's so fun !! i feel like the soap mold is what seems to be the expensive thing to buy really, or well, the thing that feels overpriced at a lot of places, so that's what i'm trying to find for a decent price

yeah that's why im like, if you wanna get into it, try and get some cheap but not garbage version of the stuff you like, to try, and if you stick with it and actually enjy it, it might be worth the 600 for the lye stuff. Idk if you can make shampoo bars with it, i guess that depends n what you're willing to put in your hair haha

yes totally understand. but could you not use anything else as an mold? you're probably wanting to cut the soap anyways! just make sure that's it's easy to remove

yeah that's true !! the mold is probably my biggest issue because these bigger ones end up at 300 SEK and that feels so unreasonable. maybe i could make my own mold with wood first oiwqwdqhdiuqw biggest DIY ever ahahaha

I never started this because as long as you do it small-scale, it's gonna be an expensive hobby, I think.

Maybe more for kids, but https://www.staples.no/p/sapestopning-startsett/9285000
