I have a friend who worked as a cashier and idk if her anxiety can be considered mild?

i'm a very anxious and awkward person and while i mostly helped customers and restocked shelves i have brief experience as a cashier because they needed me to fill in. it will be very hard in the beginning, my hands were wet with sweat for a long while and i was trembling lol. but after a while it truly gets easier as the process becomes automated, as with anything else. it really depends on how complicated your cash register is, at least to me that was the biggest fear, messing up money. and it also depends on how full of traffic the store is and what kind of stuff you sell. i think clothing stores are much easier to handle than say, supermarkets.

i did it for a while and my anxiety can be pretty bad. i had to stop work for other reasons, but i found the machine fairly easy to run when i was trained. so after that it really became a matter of memorizing a few token lines of small talk just to keep the customer mildly entertained and often they'd go off on their own tangent. keep in mind that's just what my store preferred us to do, but even then i had coworkers who just didn't bother with small talk and just got the work done and they're still working way longer than i did.

i was also rather trembly. i remember i had just told myself in my head, "hey im starting to get the hang of things" and literally a second later the customer said "oh you must be new!"

i managed fine for 2.5 years in a huge store. it's very drone stuff, mindless after a time.
