i dabbled this topic in my last thread but i wanted to make a new one for this purpose only

if you take or have taken medication for social anxiety or depression, what has been your experience? what meds did you take and for how long? did it help/worsen your condition?

i dont have any experience personally! my sister has chronic depression and she has used many different types of meds that all don't really work for her, they didn't make her condition worse though i believe. but her depression is 'rare' as in none of the treatments work for her so her psychiatrist etc don't rly know what to do at this point

i've had no effect so far, but hopefully i'll find the right one soon
my mother says hers helps her a lot though, for both anxiety and depression
i've taken fluoxetine, citalopram, currently on sertraline, i think i was on something else too, but i can't remember

im on mood stabilizers(lamictal) if that counts? have been on them for a year-ish. i am really bad at not taking "breaks", i have a habit of stopping when i think im healed to perfection (aka hypomanic).

they help a lot, tho i really hate that when im on them my speech gets messed up and i know no words for anything. and also if i stop and then get back on them i tend to hallucinate a lot more, but thats sort of a me-problem i could stop if i just keep taking my meds like im supposed to lmao.
since it doesnt hit until a few weeks/months in and its so slow i didnt know how well they worked until i quit, always a surprise. so yea they work wonders but hate the many moments when it sounds like ive had a stroke. my friend was actually worried until i found out it was a side effect that i didnt know of hah.

sertralin from age 13-18 barely helped i think, just made me survive i guess

duloxetine for exactly one year now actually. has helped so much with my anxiety. i can do things now that i wouldnt dream of before. it also made not cry constantly. it was so weird going from crying daily to not shedding a single tear in two months. didnt cure my depression tho, just pushed the unalive thoughts to the back of my head so im able to focus on other things. still a long way to go tho. and i wouldnt recommend duloxetine rly cus ive read too many horror stories about it, the side effects are many and i fear the day i have to go off it lol

but if you have severe anxiety and depression the right meds will be your friend

i've been two years on sertraline, oxazepam, and quetiapine no more cum and having restless legs from time to time is annoying, but they've helped. I have other medications that are not meant for my depression and anxiety disorders but do affect my mental health, so i don't know how being only on my mental health meds would affect me though.

I also meet my nurse and occupational therapist three times a week which i think has helped me more than medication so i highly recommend getting help in other forms than medication if that's possible.

i've been taking alprazolam for like a year and a half

it's improved my anxiety so so much. i rarely take it now because i feel it's a bit too strong but definitely helped.

been eating venlafaxine for depression for like 6-7 years, can't imagine my life without
actually quit the meds for a few months and my depression relapsed so i don't really wanna quit them again either, they make me feel like a normal person

I'm on antipsychotics, mood stabilizers and anti depressants. :)

IT has definitely helped with my paranoia and stability, however, I still struggle with hallucinations and light paranoia at times.

I'm horrible at taking them, though, I tend to think I'm cured and perfectly happy so I stop taking them, and then I spiral down again. :I

I was on antidepressants for maybe 4 years, and then I decided to quit. It was okay, I think it did help me on the longer run, but I still felt a bit off with my mood being very blant. And also I lost a lot of appetite. Though I'm happy I don't need to take them anymore.
Currently only taking some antipsychotic medicine, which is mainly to help me fall asleep, because I've had very bad insomnia for long periods in many years. I hope to get off that at some point, so I won't feel to dependent on it. But also it has overall effects, which are still helpful to me during the day! :)
It took almost 7 years to get to this point, but most of my issues are better. Not only thanks to medicine, but it definetly has helped me get this far
