Poll: should i take the job
working full time all summer?
Private

i got recommended for a job through a classmate last wednesday. i sent my contact info and got instructed to make an account on a recruitment site. i posted my CV and personal letter. the next day, at 08.01, i got a mail from the recruiter, asking me to add more things to my cv, OR write a longer personal letter.

why would i post a CV without all my experience in the first place?

so i write a longer personal letter.

i am about to answer to her mail at 08.40, but before i'm able to send an answer to her e-mail, saying that i did what she asked for, she calls me. so, she gave me 39 minutes to do what she asked before calling.

i answered and we chatted a bit. she asked med questions and told me about the job. apparently it's not a summer job, as i thought, but a full time summer job + continuation afterwards with 2 workdays per week Ă  4 hours. i also have to work during the "mellandagar" which is the days between christmas and new years (except for the 25th i think).

i say that it's ok because that' what you're supposed to right. but i don't think i will stay for that long if i get the job.

before hanging up, she asks me to click on a link she will send me and answer to 7 questions in video format. i feel stressed and like i'm being a bit pushed around. i don't like the process at this point and can't sleep very well the following days because of it.

after having made the videos, and e-mailing her that i did so, she says thank you. at 16.55 my classmate says "she will contact you soon so be prepared".

she didn't contact me until today, pretty much saying "the working place will look into your application at the end of the week and contact you at the beginning of next week".

mind you that she told me initially that it was a hurry to get the videos and everything done because they wanted me to start asap and that, if all went well, i would start to get instructed at the workplace at the beginning of THIS week.

so i took the silence last week as me not getting the job (that's usually how it goes when they don't want you in my experience).

and now i don't know what to do.

- i'm not keen on working all summer.
- i've already scheduled a hike at the end of the summer that i will have to ask for vacation for, so i won't get any more than that. (and one other week that is when the facility is closed, 3 weeks before my hike).
- it's customer service through phone calls which doesn't feel like the best fit for me
- i feel like they haven't treated me greatly through the process and i feel kind of used
- it would be nice to get to relax after 9 months of school

+ i know that my CV is lacking and that's why they are not giving me an answer straight away, so i  would benefit from a job.
+the work is sliiiightly related to my field
+my friends are working during the summer so there will be a lot of alone time anyway.
+ money would be nice

about the poll: i haven't even been offered the job yet but lol i could refuse it now or wait until they say we want you/we don't want you

in my humble opinion it's not necessarily all beneficial to not get a break, i wouldn't recommend working all summer, but honestly what do i know i've literally never had a job

no i don't think it's benefitial at all to not get a break. it's nice to have something to be occupied with so the whole summer doesn't just mush together but i would prefer working like maybe 2 days a week or something liek that. working full time during the summer and only getting 2 weeks of a break feels dumb. i don't need that kinda cash anyway.

i've only had one job that paid and at that time i worked about 50 % i think. it was ok but still stressful

but i'm very aware that it's nearly impossible to get a summer job that is at 20% or smth like that. feels like it' s nearly always at 100%

i think you would benefit from having some kind of break really, it isn't directly healthy to be under stress for very long
but i definitely see the benefits of taking the job if you get it offered, but you kind of need to weigh the pros and cons

i agree and working 40 hour weeks have never seemed appealing to me (especially if the work seems,,, not fun). i think i study around 6 hours per weekday atm and that is just enough to still have my shit together with cleaning, cooking, resting and working out

yes that's what i'm trying to do ahahah
i guess i can wait until i get the offer (if i do) and decide then...

yeah nah it's relatable, i'm extremely bad at managing my studies so i've been working 10+ hours generally every day so other chores really don't .. get done, which is not good

i think i would see it differently if the job was in the same town as my friends/bf but it's in the town i study,  where i don't have any close friends which sucks.... i would just be alone during the evenings and have to take the bus 2-3 hours to get to any friends/bf during the weekends, which i've done throughout the year and it kind of sucks

tbh i think if it doesn't feel good and you don't Have to work, don't do it
i have two weeks' vacation this summer and working the rest and i'm dreading it soooo much. but i mean it's my normal job where i am employed year-round so lol. i really really really need a longer proper break. like rest is So valuable to me rn and i'm not getting it ever

yes my gut feeling is to turn it down even if i see struggles with both saying yes and no. but my gut is just telling me that i won't be happy and that school will be hard when i get back to it in the autumn if i work all summer and i think that might be my answer. it just creates a lot of new struggles i guess ahah but they are better than working full time i think.... but on the other hand i feel like it's stupid to turn a job down where i could actually get some experience (which i lack).

but on the other hand i feel like the right working place wouldn't turn me down in the future for not having had jobs during the summers when going to law school and needing that rest (but do that kinda place even exist) ahah

anyway sorry u haven't gotten the rest u need aaaaA that's so annoying !! but hopefully it's worth the security of having a full time all year round job
