Refurbishing ikea stuff help
Account deleted

Idk if that's the right word but I bought a book case ish thing from IKEA and it needs to be fixed and given some new paint to look good again but what is the best way to do this since the stuff ikea use for color is so smooth.

Im probably getting kontakt plast to put on the main surface to freshen it up a bit bc i don't like the smooth, white ikea vibe but idk if it will work

Have any of u any experience?

i painted like.. a kommode from ikea but it was essentially "meant" to be painted by me so.. and i painted my skohylle but it was a pain to get the colour to stick so it should've been more sanded down firs t

I think sandpaper is overkill if you use the right kind of paint.

The paint will probably cost more than the shelf though.

I have painted, and spray painted a lot of furniture lol
it tends to not wanna stick without sanding it, and even if it does, it will start to come off when you move it and put things on it.

its all about how long you want it to last, too. Like do you wanna not sand it, and have it wear out in a few months, or put in the extra 3 hours and make sure it sticks.
up to you
I would not bother painting it at all - I'd just reinforce whats broken, throw a pretty scarf over it, and call it a day

thank u guys.

so I'm sorta just considering painting the parts that aren't white anymore and scratched up. and then just adding kontaktplast on the rest. or i can *just* do the kontaktplast (idk what it translates too, sry. it's like pvc stuff u glue ontop and it can look like wood or marble or what u want it to.
