i've heard that too but haven't dug into any of the theories.. i hope he does cuz omg i rly loved his character. i get why it made sense for them to kill him off for the story b/c everyone in the town still thinks he's a murderer/cult leader... but it would be cool if he somehow saves himself in the upside down and they find him later
