Spoilers until page 65 bc that's how far i am.
Idk what i expected from this book but the influence russian folklore has in it is so obvious i am like lowkey distraught bc it is sorta obsessive/intense in some aspects and in others its very slavic vibes w the direct, dark manerism that demand rather than ask bc then you cannot be told no, and where only the result matters.
Same vibes as vita nostra btw
Except this one so far has some thing about eating a lot of glistening, fatty food which i personally find sorta ew but it's also very understandable as it is a big contrast to the hunger/poverty of that communist, 20th century russia it is set in
And well the fairytale apsects are here obvi - repetitions, characters from folklore, house spirits, etc. Honestly it was such a fun detail to read that there used to be one house spirit (i cant spell the word that was used so ppw accept this terrible inaccurate phrasing) per family when there was one family in each house but now that there was 8 families in one house there were also many more house spirits so they started a comitee! 😅
And the lessons. There are always lessons to learn and marya totally have met one of them yet when she used the silver comb and called upon the tsarita of the length of an hour.
That was it. Bye.
