What is a pain you enjoy having? (pg rating this one for obvious reasons.)

(You do not have to answer follow-up questions, but to keep a discussion going, I will indulge them.)

If you find the calm/release/relief/fun after pain "good" , how does the feeling compare to the life situation you're in that makes you pick up the hammer in the first place?

How do you feel about being able to inflict pain upon yourself when you wish to? You say it is fun, and I can definitely see a relief or even entertainment in being able to control pain or choose when to experience it.  For me, it definitely comes across as a safer experience based on control alone, and to know it is a space-limited reaction that has a pattern/expression to itself that is relatively low on harm, rather than to meet a unpredictable wave of it at a random time. But its also something society oftenmost see as a self-destructive action. What do you think?

1. I harbor a strong belief in small actions being immensely powerful, maybe beyond what a lot of people would consider sensible. I see a lot of people thinking only large scale changes being important because they have a lot of influence, but in all the habits that makes up our day, there are definitely power to be had in smaller scales that you can actively aknowledge within yourself and which can change your personal universe.

(I should probably also aknowledge that there is a step between thought and action and while the though definitively is hope and inspiration, the action is what is going to make the change.)

Living small. I am a person who never have done well with pain. I am terrified by it. Yet, pain becomes comfortable at a point. I don't do enough to grow our of it because I know that will be uncomfortable too. Instead, I drag the pain around me like a duvet and settle down with my mind elsewhere, telling myself this blanket is comfortable enough for my body: how can I possibly deserve to ask for more?

The known is better than the unknown bc it is predictable even if i am overall hurting.

I only feel shame from living small because other people find it pathetic but if I otherwise didn't care I'd be willing to suppress the occasional thought of "I should be doing more" if it meant I'm comfortable at least, but then I'm also too aware of its consequences so I can only suppress said thought for so long before the one who shames me is myself yes

i think this holds for many people but: making myself believe that everyone actually hates me because it's easier to convince yourself that nobody likes you, and therefore it's easier to hate them, than actually believing people love you and that they value you and they would miss you if you were gone

i think it's a trauma response that many people have, often caused by childhood neglect or abuse. and it's a very toxic mindset to live in, because it causes you to push everyone away. because it's easier to push people away, to reject yourself, before they reject you. i almost use it as a self-soothing behavior. if i think everyone hates me i don't need to worry about living up to their expectations.

and it's a very bad thing to do. and it's often chalked up as just 'low self-esteem' but it goes deeper than that. it's a form of mental self-harm. and i have to work actively to prevent myself from thinking that way.
