I'm going to call in sick and say that I have covid symptoms. The very few times I called in sick before, (I never canceled a trip before), I simply said my illness and there was no need to prove it or show documents or anything of that sort. IF they ask for a covid test as evidence, which I don't think they will, but if they do, I will figure it out then. I will have time to do something about if if I say that i SUSPECT that I have covid instead of immediately saying that I tested positive for covid.

Moral of the story, try not to lie too often. It often gets you in more trouble

Not if u say u suspect it obv, and I know here its enough to say u suspect it I guess because you're not supposed to go to work sick anyway? But they aren't like "give proof of puking/diarrhea"

Problem is that it's a longer trip and if I say that I got food poisoning and therefore cannot fly with them, they're just going to have me fly out another day (unless I claim to have food poisoning all the time........ which is less believable than covid imo!)

Do you have any other suggestions?

That's too bad :/ Diarrhea would always be my go to for plane trips, because they don't recommend flying with diarrhea (due to the pressure in the plane)
If they want to fly you out another day, suspecting covid won't be enough either though, because a negative test will give you the same scenario, unless you fake a positive one.

When did you talk with your boss about getting a vaccine? And did you state it very obvious? Because, unless you're in a field, where the vaccine is obligatory, then I would honestly just tell the truth, if it's been some time since you talked about it. If you just nodded along and didn't really participate in the vaccination talk, then you might be able to explain your way out of it. If your boss is going to fire you over the lack of a vaccine (check if it's legal where you live) then it'll probably happen over the next year anyway, because the vaccination will probably keep being needed some places, and more places might put the same rules in place when the new wave hits this winter.
