what is the question?

if I translate it into a language I know so I can understand what the language I'm learning is?
rarely, depends truly
on my level of understanding of the language I learn
but usually I just translate like concepts
or single words
like, I make sense of the stuff by understanding the concept of the word or expression and then roll with it
but also, it's been ages I was in that situation because I decided that knowing 4 languages and like 3 sentences in spanish is enough to survive
but whenever I read or hear spanish, I'm like "these words I know, I think I understand what the point of the sentence is, I'll just assume I got the gist and move on from here". but that's because I'm not really driven to improve on my barely A2 scratching spanish knowledge

I fucking hated that back in school
our school vernacular was French in ALL subjects except for German and English
like, French obviously was, but also Latin and all the other subjects. depending on what teacher you had, even phys ed was in French
I struggled with French the most out of all the languages I learned and actually had a few problems in some other subjects because we had it all in French and I didn't understand what was going on.
I mean imagine, you're already borderline stupid when it comes to the language, but then they explain to you something that you would struggle with if it was taught to you in your mother tongue. but no, now you have to learn it in a completely new language.
Also english was from the beginning on completely in English because we learnt it so late (grade 9)and the general assumption was, that everyone already knew the language a bit due to the internet and all. well guess what, I didn't know shit. For the first whole year, I really struggled a lot because the teacher refused to believe that I didn't already learn english beforehand. And I'm generally good with languages, like I pick them up fast. But having to learn a language in said language with little help otherwise was just fucking hell

we always spoke norwegian instead, except for reading out loud etc, idk if its a norway thing or just my class thing but it didn't stop me from being able to think in english lol
