i need help to decide what i'm gonna write a bachelor about
do u guys have some random ideas that sounds interesting? like i really need help to just get my brain thinking about this so I hopefully have a decent idea by january

I study geography which means I can nearly pick anything tbh but I likely want to do qualitative research, which means text analysis, interviews,  autophotography (asking ppl to take pictures) or observation as the tools. I've been thinking I want to do it about something I'm interested about, so usually something that in some way relates to literature\books and\or the environment (big category here). Qualitative research is often about opinions, values experiences, perspectives, relations to others, and so on so it would be something around how people relates or experiences or values x thing. eg, how many uses the library or e-readers within x group of people? or how are students relationship to buying used textbooks?

yeah but it can be like about anything rly
preferably suited groups above 18 years bc i would need parental consent if they are minors

if some of you mention making it on the relaunch of gsm, i would be here for it srusly -- i just don't wanna consider all the ethics of it

Can't you get inspiration in old bachelor projects ?? (Idk if it's possible for you) or maybe other people's master's? I honestly know nothing about geography as a topic in general, so it's hard to give specific recommendations.

Maybe it's more social science, but a possible topic could be cultures explored through books?
For instance Blomsterdalen by Niviaq Korneliussen, which is about a young Greenlandic woman who is suicidal, which can be interpreted as a commentary on the high suicide rates in Greenland. It's won the Nordic Literary Prize as well, and by winning it's put a spotlight on the problem (in Danish media at least)

For a general tip - maybe go look at some of the books they recommend for your chosen study in the University library, it can sometimes help. I found a whole book discussing the dilemma of copyright protection in a digitalized society, which I ended up writing my bachelor on, and it shaped my project in a positive way.

Could you give some examples of what others with your major in school have done?
additional questions: what have been your favorite courses so far? The most interesting concepts and courses?

During my first two years of studying I became really interested in data analytics and AI , and even though I study industrial engineering I wrote my bachelor about machine learning in fashion & apparel marketing

Such a cool study, sounds very interesting

geography is everything really, like if you think about anything that is about how a phenomena accumulate in space or time or how ppl relates to any theme, or differences between groups of people, it includes both nature geography (geology, natural hazards) and human geography (city planning, people, relations, maps, power structures).

No, I don't have any examples of what others have done yet. I know some want to write about offshore windmills.

My favorite course so far has been human geography because it is easy in theory, lmao. It has been about moving patterns, historical developement, supply chains, city planning (i don't like city planning tho). Supply chains\outsourcing was something I already cared about before I started geography but I don't think it is something suitable for a bachelor. It can see any usable questions to answer w it that doesn't require and insane amount of insight from eg a company

The other sphere is geology and natural hazards which i find interesting, but it's quite hard theoretically if I want to go deeper into the natural sciences. So I'm fairly sure I want to stay on the human geography side even tho it can overlap with themes in nature geography.

These are the classes I've had so far in geography:

These 3 are mostly research methods:
* qualitative method
* GIS and quantitative method (map making and statistics)
* Geographical perspectives and fieldwork

These are more topics:
* energy transition and sustainable developement (do not wanna touch this topic again)
* management of natural resources, environment and sustainable development (I like)
* The Earths Environment (this is what I keep naming as geology and natural hazards even tho it is not entirely correct)
* An Introduction to Human Geography

But I also have these from uni:

* Organic Farming
* English Foreign Language (Literature, english history and linguistics)

For the spring semester I will also have to choose one more topic, which will be one of these:
* local and global perspectives on nature- and resource management
* globalization and sustainability in the global south
* Geophysical and biological natural hazards

I will likely pick one of the two first ones.

okay i mean supply chain...
A possible one COULD be to contact a handful of Norwegian based companies and ask about how they stand on knowledge about their supply chain less than half a year before they are required to answer all reasonable questions about it from consumers from june 1st, 2023 based on Åpenhetsloven (Transparency law). to try "Take the temperature" on how they are preparing for that change.

but the thing is that it's just unlikely that brands want to answer

Well, I would probably do a project on slime mold and city planning/infrastructure if I had to choose something in geography with this knowledge (if I could find enough literature on it) but it might not be your cup of tea. (www.nature.com/articles/s41598-022-05439-w)

The climate crisis in a political perspective could also be interesting, which could both be how developing countries want to have the same rights to evolve as developed countries had without the CO2 restrictions, or maybe climate refugees and how they'll fare. This is, however politically heavy, so it might be quite boring to dig into?

Globalization and supply chains (if that's the correct definition) could also be an interesting topic with a focus on environmental impact from production vs. cost and the competition with Chinese production. (I.e. it's cheaper to buy a mug off of eBay with shipping than it is to buy from the country you live in)

Idk. I'm just spitting ideas.

A more legal problem you could probably also work with in geography is China building small islands to claim more of the sea as their own.

We've actually been through a bit of the sustainable development discussion in western v. southern countries (sorry for the terrible use of terms rn, brain fry) in the curriculum.

I think they are interesting ideas, I just have to contemplate whether they are doable within the timeframe and w the resources I have. I think it would be most reasonable to keep my perspective local mostly, so within Norway. There we also have the issue, that Norway don't really produce a lot of things imo (microchips, wool, oil - coming at the top of my head rn), and yeah Norway have quite a few import laws\regulations to protect our own market that could be interesting to look at. maybe a more human geography approach to that would be to find peoples stances on the issue of importing "for cheap" or buying "at home" but most "At home" stores in norway are international giants that are not originally norwegian.

a part of me is also partial to do something relating to zw\sustainable stores in Norway since we have some but most are in southern norway

maybe what story they are telling abt views on sustainability\climate change\environmental challanges idk

(i'm collecting ideas in this topic now)
