Ive heard its harder for girls and women to get diagnosed, is that true? I have suspected for a while I might be on the spectrum. How hard was it for you to recieve a diagnosis? How does it work, does your therapist just ask you questions?

Good question, for the girls and women who receive this diagnosis, because it is very true why it is diagnosed with the neurological (I was diagnosed by "my parents" in my childhood, with a neurologist and it is not as expensive as it was in my years previous), I was super hyperactive and impulsive and I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome (It is mild Autism and is level 1), ADHD and Generalized Development Issue but there are types of autism and three degrees or levels from the mildest to the most severe, but currently It is diagnosed at any age from infancy - childhood - adolescence to adulthood, I have been to a psychologist (from a hospital) she asks me certain questions about autism and other thing

But btw the autism is not a disease nor is it a disability (but in certain countries they consider it how disability but more or little I think), it is a lifelong condition and cannot be cured or treated with medical treatments and things like that

But btw Maya tyy for tag me <3

im late diagnosed autistic(got it like 3 year ago ish), for me it started with going to therapy for bpd, then i asked my therapist if i could get checked for autism since i had suspected it for a while, she said yes cuz she had kinda suspected it too! its called DPS here in norway so i got sent there and 8 months is later i was diagnosed! i got told tho that it was harder to see in females so that was probably the reason i got my diagnosis so late iddkkk

The community is very open to self diagnosis with autism.
Before someone tries to come for me it's quite common.
I mean please tell me who actually wants to be diagnosed with ok, think about that. I didn't self diagnose just for funsies ok.
It's very hard to get diagnosed here none of my doctors ever realized it my whole life.
Here it's 5k or a five year wait, neither of which I care to pay or wait for.
I don't need disability pay so what's the point really.

Ive met others on the spectrum and honestly my whole world clicked and started making sense for once in my whole life.
The initial reliving and having traumatic autism moments from childhood replay in my head, realizing exactly why some things were so traumatic. It was a rough process.

My partner is diagnosed Asperger's which we understand to be the same thing, autism. Makes sense we're the same level of.. interesting.. we get along really well tho it's been five years now.

The process made me realize I actually stim a lot and get sensory overload a lot and need breaks. I started to really unmask and stand up for my needs.
I also realize now that like the only social conversations I'm good at are ones involving my special interests, if it's not about that then it's like I have no idea what to do socially.
It also makes sense now when people just randomly hate me for seemingly nothing, yeah its a real thing for people to just hate the mentally disabled apparently. Its like they can just smell me out I hate it. Before I knew, when it happened it would just make me confused, cry and cause me mental grief I didn't deserve because I didn't do anything wrong.
I've lived through that hundreds of times throughout my life. Heck even on this website.
I can only speak facts even if it ruins your day. 😅 Maybe that's part of it but hey the truth can hurt.

hey ! psych student here and from my own experiences and the experiences of others, women usually have a lot of their symptoms/concerns dismiss especially when it comes to autism diagnosis among other mental health diagnosis. a possible reason for this is because girls tend to mask a lot so when they go to a doctor, the doctor can say something along the lines of, ' you're not autistic because you do ___ " and most of the times girls don't even realize they're masking until they've got their diagnosis. if you do to a doctor thinking your autistic they'll probably ask you questions about your childhood, mannerisms but even that sometimes isn't enough to get a diagnosis. most people will have to do for even four different opinions before they get their diagnosis.

i'm late-diagnosed autistic too (asperger's), got the diagnosis a month before i turned 25
i got my diagnosis fairly easy cause i went through a private doctor, the process is longer in public healthcare and will depend on the doctors, some know shit about autism in girls and some know better
