My cat has been very strange recently. She won't let me touch it. When I touch it, it will run away and yell at me. What's more strange is that it smells everywhere in the room. I suspect it's Alzheimer's disease because it's already eight years old. Does anyone know why?

if a cat won't let you touch it (and it's not the normal behaviour for them) it may be a sign of pain/discomfort! i recommend going to a vet because it can be something serious going on

smells? has she been peeing everywhere? that's typically a sign of stress, but could be something worse. especially coupled with not wanting you to touch her. she sounds scared as well if she runs away from you.

has there been any major changes lately? have you moved things around, introduced new furniture or people, or something like that?

She has just recovered from a serious illness. She was bitten by another cat at home some time ago, but the cat has been kept in the yard now.

She has been smelling around the room, as if it were the first time she came here. I suspect that she has lost her memory.

ohhhhh, you wrote "it smells everywhere in the room" so i thought the room smells lol, my bad. yeah, could be memory loss. or complications from the illness. i would call a vet for a more professional opinion tho!

Hello I äm here!

please keep her indoors until you know what it’s going on with her!!! And please take her to a vet who can actually look and feel her!!

cats with memory loss are actually more likely to seek you out for comfort than to avoid you, and disorientation can be a symptom of many other things!!! Her avoidance of touch and running away sounds a lot like a stress or pain response to me! 8 years old is also just an adult cat still, not an elderly, so even if it is memory issues you should take her in to figure out why in case something’s going on with her brain.

If she was bitten and injured by another cat as you say she can have developed other conditions even if the bite healed well! Even if you know the cat who bit her, one cat can carry diseases and be symptom free and then transmit it to another cat!! You need a vet to look her over and eliminate any internal infection or injury, that might be causing her pain.

you can usually call or email the vet and explain the symptoms and they can tell you how soon you need to get an appointment. Make sure to monitor her for any other new behaviors, like loss of appetite, how often she goes to pee, if she’s itching etc

Oh, my God, thank you for giving me such a detailed and authoritative answer. I will take her to the vet the day after tomorrow. I have contacted her. I hope she will be okay.
