must haves .... a lot of easy food i think so if u r overwhelmed by everything u can have cup noodles or smth
also towels! first week i think kitchen cleaning spray is most important ? and dishsoap ofc
and now that i think abt it like those throwaway cleaning wipes might also be chill for the first weeks when u dont know what works for u yet

i live with two roommates so we just switch around every week someone cleans the apartment. i do kitchen and bathroom and then the floor

bugs ..... idk ....... if it works for ur window u can get one of those net gauze things ... dont keep food out idk

a lot of cleaning towels, they get dirty really fast if the house ur moving into is dirty
vacuum because things get dirty lol

bugs are very hard to keep out imo but they were here already when i moved in so getting them to leave after they're already here is very hard
not keeping food out / often changing waste bin is very important against bugs, even when the bin isn't full change if more oftne when the weather is hot

first day necessities:
dishsoap, handsoap, toilet paper (lol), kitchen towels, regular towels

first week:
laundry detergent, (and softener if you use that, i personally do), universal cleaning spray or wipes, kitchen spray, toilet cleaner, mop etc

for when you've settled in a bit:
window cleaner, stove cleaner

starting up an easy routine from the beginning is useful! but you will also probably spend some time settling in and figuring out what works best for you. making a cleaning chart is also helpful :3

staying safe hmm... good locks on the door, and be careful with opening the door for strangers. people asking to come in, use the toilet, have some water etc is a no go in my opinion when you live alone. trust your gut!

for bugs, dont leave food out! and if you keep your windows open during the evening/night when you have the lights on inside, be prepared that more bugs will try to get in. you could invest in some bug netting. and changing the bins often!

when i first moved out i bought floor solution and antibacterial multi purpose cleaner, cleaned every corner. you should clean every weekend (tidying up, laundry, vaccum, change sheets) and once a month deep clean (clean windows, mop floors) i usually try to keep very clean in general so i don't have to clean as often as like no shoes in house, no outside clothes inside the bed

as for food, i personally go once a week and plan everything i am going to make trough the week, making meals in bulk is boring since i loveee to cook, do whats best for u!

i have a cleaning calendar on my wall that i printed, canva has multiple good premade ones if you need inspo!

also i use vinegar instead of laundry softener bc its a lot cheaper, just to make laundry vinegar you just add 1 part (e.g. 1dl) white vinegar and 3 parts (3dl) lukewarm water. If you use an old laundry detergent bottle it usually holds double the recipe.

also ive recently gotten into laundry powders, they are especially good for colorful and white clothes. for black ones i have gotten cleanest clothes with pre-wash with powder and main-wash liquid detergent

highly recommend getting a filter for your shower drain, it will save you a lot of trouble + possibly for your sinks, i use this stick that you put inside once a month and it breaks down hair and grease, you can find a lot of cleaning products like that are less hassle than the hardcore drain cleaners

getting a vacuum you like to use is a lot better than focusing on any other aspect of it, like if you like how a product feels or looks, it will be much more usable for you.

for bugs i would suggest rosewood products, also save your breadbags or small plastic bags to put the more smelly stuff in if you cant throw it out on the same day. idk if this works but i sprinkle dried mint to my trash once in a while bc bugs dont like that.

if you eat non-plain food you might benefit from a fridge filter. for occasional smells use baking soda in a small trey. old coffee beans or used+dried coffee grounds also work.

also when moving into a new place, be sure to vacuum every part of every corner possible. if there are weird stuff, take pictures immediatly and send them to your landlord or whoever you can to prove you didnt cause them and they might also pay for them to get it fixed, or to you to fix it.

a fridge smell filter is like a ball that you throw in there and it works for 3-6 months usually

check if all the outlets work + if they are loose. avoid using outlets like that.

check your apartment complex's layout and see how the other apartments are laid out. that might be beneficial when you plan where to put something fragile. for example our kitchen wall shakes a lot when our washing machine is on. if you know your neighbors bed headbord is on the otherside of the wall, maybe dont put your speakers on that side of the wall, or atleast not screwed to that wall.

get confortable with your neighborhood, if you seem scared, that is the green light for the creepppps. greet neighbors and try to remember their faces. Dont tell people you live alone and dont tell your apartment number or surname, atleast to not on the first year. If other people have doormats, put a doormat to yours too. Dont let your outside of your place show that you're new to the neighborhood.
