being old in trade school

i started an apprenticeship 3 weeks ago and the other two apprentices are 18 and 19, meanwhile im 28. so i was super worried they would think im a loser, too old to befriend, uncool and whatever ----i was just really nervous abt them finding out my age. n then we had to do a lil "get to know each other" game on day two and we had to add our ages up aaargh so i instantly had to out myself as old!!

but turns out i feared rejection for nothing and they are still very nice to me, and we talk abt baldurs gate and series and anime together and its not really an issue that im 10 years older at all. tho i dont always know all the shows they watch haha

anyways next wednesday is the first day in trade school (as opposed to being at work together) and getting realy nervous again, will the kids in trade school be nice too or maybe think im a hag ... will there be another older person ............

half of my friend group is liek "u are the weirdo here for thinking ur age matters to them" and the other half is agreeing that it could be jarring to learn of my old age

in germany u can still do that even if you are like ... 60. theres no age limit u just have to find a work place who will sponsor ur education. i think up to a degree they are very happy to have older ppl because they are probably less work to teach than 16 year olds fresh out of school haha.
i have a friend who is 37 and recently finished his apprenticeship as an electrician after he wanted to learn a new job because he hated his old one!!

ummm its a place for mildy disabled ppl where u can learn various fields of trades. and last year at their open house day i visited and looked at the textile branch specifically (im doing an apprenticeship as "
upholstery and decorative sewing tailor" or wahetever u would call it in english) and i really liked it !! its only 8 ppl in total so its a small and quiet section and we are even in our own small building. so it appealed to me a lot lol
in june i did a 1 month work test to see if i like it and if i can handle an 8 hour work day (my social worker from the rehabilitation workcenter wasnt sure abt that so he wanted me to try it first before he signs me up for it)

i get you! i started uni at 25 (26 now) and was worried it might be weird to be around people straight from hs and vice versa but i don't think anyone cared/-s? sometimes people assume i must be more mature than them or whatever (when my age comes up) but i don't think people have said anything negative besides one of my ex roommates asking if it's awkward for me

im just scared of the actual 16 year olds because u know, at that age u are maybe a bit immature and prone to fast judgement and gossiping ... honestly im glad im older because i have settled in life and in my personality as n adult already, not liek the peeps fresh out of school

and back in uni i had one classmate who was i think 29 when we started?? and i legit never knew untill he said something abt it years alter and i was like ... wait what ... i was like in middle  school back then??? how old are you??

i guess most ppl wont even really register others age untill its explicitly brought up. but it makes me feel so insecure lol
