Australia is banning making social media accounts for people under the age of 16 starting on December tenth

do you think this will actually benefit kids or will it just be another thing that will police people who aren’t in that demographic while the kids find other ways to join….

Ig a lot of sites already have like a 13+ policy but its not like those are usually enforced adequately

idk it's right in theory, but kids, and parents for that matter, werent exactly respecting the 13 y/o rules so unless theyre gonna enforce it with actual consequences
could easily just make life harder for the kids with strict parents because theyre gonna be the only ones this applies to

honestly parents should just monitor better what their kids do. I agree with making social media only available at 16, that is the kind of regulation I kind of wished for our generation as well. There will be ways around it for sure but I think not everyone is gonna make the effort to do so depending on how hard it will be. IDK how they want to do that tho if its just confirming youre older or younger then it really wont do shyte since you can just lie but if it helps that kids upload less pictures of themselves its already a good step. I think every country should do that so its effective.

yea i can also see an issue where sometimes social media helps kids reach out to people when they need help or make them realize something is wrong. I think there should be restricted access if anything
