if you do how do you decide what to draw, and how do you avoid drawing the same exact thing over and over again

when i try to draw a face i end up drawing the same exact face, same features...same face syndrome

I'd say find some reference form that inspires you and spend some time drawing based off of that!
That could mean something like artfight/inktober prompts, drawing your avi's from dress up sites, photos you like (that you take or find online and collect), pinterest/mood boards, different eras or countries of art, etc. 

I can't say where you will find something that inspires you! Heck, I had a phase of drawing faces from hair magazines i picked up at a second hand store because i liked how they focused on interesting faces/hair without getting too crazy with clothes or makeup, and then i'd simplify the faces down a little towards my style but still try to make it recognizable.

Maybe try some different reference forms and do basic sketches until you find what works well for you and inspires/encourages you? But also something that's fun bc if it feels like work/forced then it's demotivating...

(maybe i should take my own advice n practice more )
