i need some advice i think so i thought id ask here, very long story sryy

so the last two weeks i havent been doing great bc of adhd meds that were upped in dosage
ive had a lot of severe anxiety and panic, and my body has ben very tense and ive been hyperventilating often
ive kept my two best friends informed about this bc ive been very offgrid these weeks and had to cancel a few plans as well.
then two days ago was easily the worst mental health day i've had in a long time, i was severely anxious and overthinking for the whole day n have had multiple full blown panic attacks in the evening.
but we had a halloween party n i really wanted to go + see my friends bc ive had to cancel a few times already right. also - this is a completely separate thing hh but - my bf wanted to go very badly and did not offer to stay home w me and i didnt want to be home alone bc i was feeling pretty suicidal (like not actually truly, but a lot of spiralling thoughts which are not nice to have when ur alone). so i went, it took at least an hour to get ready while still crying n shaking but yaknow... got there in the end.

at this party one of my friends was very very drunk, normally hes like the sweetest man but now he was very idk like aggressive in a friendly way ? very in my face, saying unpredictable stuff, idk a kind of energy that i could NOT handle that night. i kind of steered clear of him the whole evening

the party was at the clurb so bad setting to be in when feeling very emotionally unstable but ok i was there, it was not a great time, i had to try really hard not think about or feel the anxiety n almost had a panic attack again on the dancefloor. so i was like, whatever i tried, i gotta get back home.

so we wanted to go home but still had a few things in my friends house, bc if all went well we were going to sleep over there. so we needed her keys and were planning to bring them back again, but then the super drunk friend said he wanted to go home too and walk w us. this was horrible for me bc i needed to get out of there asap and i knew he was going to have a terrible energy that i could lowk not deal with, but my bf was doing fine n he said it was fine so i dumped that task on bf and kept mostly quiet while walking back. we did promise to wait for the drunk friend so we could make sure he locked the house.

at my friends place we grabbed our stuff n were ready to go but drunk friend had lost his fucking keys omg. so we help look for them, they're nowhere to be found, i get more n more anxious and at this point at least 45 mins has passed since we left the club.

drunk friend doesnt seem very drunk anymore, hes focused on finding his keys and says to us; u guys can leave, im just going to continue looking and you don't have to wait for me. i know we promised to wait so we knew the door was locked so at first i refused despite feeling horrible at this point lol but when it took another idk 10 mins i was like ok i cant do this anymore i need to LEAVE so we did end up leaving.

now my two best friends are angry at me/us bc apparently drunk friend did not return to the party, he had fallen asleep in my friends house but hadn't told anyone he wasn't coming back, so they were super worried. they're angry that we left him there and that we didn't look out for him. they're now saying they also think its bad that we weren't going to walk him back but only send him on his way, bc they thought he was too drunk to walk back on his own

and like, i kind of get it bc i also felt pretty weird abt the whole arrangement, i would've not trusted that guy with my house keys n thought it was weird that everyone seemed to be okay w him walking back on his own. but i just needed to leave that club lol so i wasnt going to ask any questions or whatever. everyone there knew i was not okay and that i was leaving because i was too anxious. i feel like its super weird to expect someone who's clearly not doing okay mentally to take care of a drunk person? if you want to make sure he comes back and doesn't get lost on his own or something, maybe don't send him back to your house or have someone who's coming back join right..?

but they're mad and want to have a serious talk abt it, and i already explained that i was doing very bad, so obviously they dont agree w me. so yea i just wanted to ask is my train of thought very wrong and should i just have sucked it up more? like u rly do not have to coddle me here pls tell me what u rly think hh

tldr; i had the shittiest mental health night ive had in a long time halloween night, still went to a club, was way too anxious to stay and left for my friends house to pick up stuff and then go home, drunk friend tagged along bc he wanted to go home as well and had to pick up stuff from friends house too. there he lost his keys, we waited like 45 mins w him but then decided to go home bc i was too anxious n lowk tripping. now friends are mad that we left him at the house bc he fell asleep there and didnt return the house keys to friends at the club

we messaged abt it a bit last night and they keep saying how they can't understand that we left him alone, that they think we should've looked out for him more, cared for him more. that he wasn't in the right state of mind to be left alone. that by agreeing to take him with us we agreed that we would look out for him. and that they understand being anxious and wanting to go home but that they still disagree with the choices we made.

n i really do get what they're saying but it makes me really sad that all of this care and consideration is going into him and none of it is aimed at me or the horrible horrible night i had, despite that still pulled up, and then being tasked w the care of someone while being so out of it myself. maybe they're not understanding the magnitude of my anxiety / panic, or maybe they just don't care, but idk it feels weird to ask a mentally unstable person to have any kind of responsibility when they're trying to leave bc they're getting too unstable

but yea i do consider myself a selfish person as well and i've been trying really hard last year to grown into a more dependable friend and to pull up on occasions when i know my friends need me even though i feel anxious or whateva, because it takes a village youknow and i love my friends and want to be there for them

so its definitely something i can still grow in but its also something ive been working hard at and then to get this as feedback is just very sad for me personally n idk im a mental health worker right so i also feel like im super justified in my actions but ughh idk what if im just the shittiest friend alive actually

NTA or everyonesucks? XD

I don't think it's fair to put the responsibility on you. But maybe your bf should've said something if he was fine? I also think it's equally irresponsible to even want the drunk friend to return to the party if he was that drunk? Isn't sleeping the best thing he could've done? I get that they felt worried ect... maybe you could've texted them saying that you had to leave and drunk friend stayed behind so maybe they could send someone home? But other than that... it's just a bad situation over-all and drinking while having severe anxiety (sadly) often leads to these types of situations too. (Saying that as someone who had my fair share)

Main points:
They seem kinda bad for putting it on you when they knew your state of mind.
Drunk friend should've stayed sleeping anyways. But ideally this should've been decided/communicated and maybe someone else from the party could've gone home to join him.
But I think it's a pretty common mistake with drunk people, especially anxious drunk people to make mistakes and your friends shouldn't treat it like it's the end of the world.

ugh yea this is what i realised as well when they texted me angry yesterday, we should've for sure texted them or called them w 'hey friend lost his keys and we need to leave what do we do'
but i was lowkey in survival mode so i couldn't think about anything like that, i was trying hard not to freak out over there. BUT i do think my bf shouldve done that for sure
im not sure if i understand correctly but i hadnt had anything to drink, i wasnt feeling up for it at all hh

Like the only reason to take it super seriously is if your drunk friend has some chronic illness like diabetes?
But even then... as someone who has diabetes XD (and maybe I used to have shitty friends) ... it's kinda also up to the person themselves to not get too drunk? I failed at this many times. But I never put it on someone else to take care of me, or like, got mad if they didn't?

Is the drunk friend even mad about this or is it just your other friends? Bc I also think that can change the perspective a little.

If it's the drunk friend who is angry about it and maybe told the other like "omg I can't believe they left me alone!!" I feel like it's something going on with that friend. Especially when they had weird energy towards you, you said?

But if it's only the other friends who are angry about this... I think what they're really upset about is just that they felt out of control with not knowing where their keys are?

I also think it's a weird thing that everyone was like "drunk friend can't be responsible enough to lock the door" but they wanted him back at the party????

ooohh... you were sober??? Hmm... I think that increases the amount of expected responsibility... but it also depends on your over-all mental health situation obvs.  But I get why your friends maybe don't get why it was so hard for you then. Have they seen you have panic attacks or like... is it something they just know about from you telling them? Cause' obvs if you were sober people expect a pretty high amount of responsibility even if you have anxiety.

I think they're putting a lot of responsibility on someone who made it very clear they needed to gtfo of there and wasn't doing well. why do they care so so badly abt drunk guy falling asleep but can't even pretend to have an ounce of care for their suicidal friend?

i think its insane to put the responsability of taking care of a drunk friend on someone who's dealing with a pretty bad mental health-related time, NTA

also yeah maybe your bf could have been more responsible since he was the only one there who was okay enough to do so...

yea i was! i felt bad enough without a having a massive hangover the next day ... ;;
they havent seen a panic attack itself but they have seen the aftermath w me going as good as mute n not engaging w anything basically after i had a panic attack on our vacation together
i feel like maybe the use of the word anxiety is where it went wrong tbh bc i tried to explain that i wasnt feeling well without sounding too much of a drama queen ig, so i just said that i had had a lot of panic n anxiety that day but didnt rly specify i'd had multiple panic attacks and suicidal thoughts

i know they care for me but lowkey ths is what makes me really sad as well, they've been friends w drunk guy for way longer but still i had hoped that they would show the same care for me as him bc they know i've been having an awful time the past two weeks

yea i think so too, he's just not an overly caring person so he didnt really think abt it ig.. also he was my ride home so if he had stayed longer, i would have had to stay longer too (i didnt trust myself to drive bc i felt too unstable/distracted)
