I get it. I, for instance, don't really see the appeal of most ferns, monsteras or alocasias. To each their own but to me they are pretty boring. I like to hear what plants other people like though, I find it very interesting to hear what characteristics people appreciate in their plants, variegation, colour, succulence, bloom etc. You seem to like aglaonemas, am I right? Those are cool.
I'm interested to hear what you think about variegated plants. I'm personally very picky about variegation, I like variegation like the hoya krimson princess, syngonium podophyllum albo-variegatum or any splashing really, but most of the time I find it makes the plant look sickly, like with the variegated string of hearts.
I like plants with green colours that appeal to me, and some like patterns but not all. For instance I like the trailing plants I have, but I could never have the golden pothos because it's just.. I can't stand the yellow in it, it's just very unappealing to me for some reason.
Yeah.
I don't really see the appeal with variegation if we are talking the kind like ah it's this species but it has some mutation that change it. I don't like them. I came across a variegated monstera and the only thing I could think was "If I buy this, I could use it to make cuttings and sell them, money.. money..".
It usually looks like some disease or spilt paint imo so I just.. don't. My sister has a variegated ficus benjamina and she really likes it and I respect that, but I would never have it myself.
Man, same, I really dislike the variegation of a golden pothos, it, again, looks very sickly to me. I have some sort of variegated pothos but I don't think it's considered a golden pothos because the variegation is creamy rather than yellow, which I think is pretty cool. Here's a photo of two of the leaves:

That's fair, I'm still not sure how I feel about monstera deliciosa variegata, on one hand I like it, on the other I hate it, and on one foot I think it's absurdly overpriced which makes me hate it.
That's exactly what I'm saying, it looks wrong! That's why I'm so specific about the variegation I like.
We have a ton of variegated ficus benjamina around my house so they're another plant that is boring as fuck to me, I can see why someone might like it though, I guess.
It looks very messy, I love the leaves of the golden pothos and the green colour but the variegation.. oof.

I really really prefer the regular monstera deliciosa. I've grown up with it so I'm biased.. the same goes for the tropic snow so .. yeah.. lol.

Idk I really like the ficus benjamina.. but I also grew up with them so I mean.. bias there as well. I'd love to have one but it is a bitchy tree imo and it's like lol I want to drop leaves and I high key do not like picking up leaves as a top 3 hobby lmao.

I had a ficus benjamina who died, and a yucca palm that died.. same reason: over-watering, resulting in root rot
Yucca palm: ohmyy they're gorgeous.
and sorry for ehmm your loss (this sounds to dark), also thanks for that lil tip, very good to know; not to over-water
Yucca palms are incredibly pretty, the thing is I watered it quite intensely before I left for Christmas (3-4 weeks away from plants) and .. it died from that, it was surreal coming back and seeing how the stem had become all mushy, very.. very weird.
ohhh, so thats what happens.. ye sounds weirdd, but by intensely: just how much water do you mean?

did u go on a vacay?

that was what happened with mine at least, it was surreal. i mean i fill a bucket of water and placed it in that and it did 10/10 not enjoy that.

i always travel to my parents (and my hometown) for vacations because i am straight up not having a great time if i have to sit alone for extensive periods of time

A whole bucket.. woah sorry but that sounds like too much water.  Well based on how you described it looked after you got back there; it definitely did not like that.

I see, r u in uni then? like in another town/city or do you work? Tots okay if you dont wanna answer.
But I feel you: I'm in uni and like live alone, but when we're on breaks I go home too.

It would have been better leaving it without water so .. you live and learn haha

Yeah, I'm in uni. It's quite the distance between the city I live in currently and my hometown.

You could cut it and propagate the cuttings to get a new plant

i think i've heard that cutting plants back encourage bushier growth  and also, you get free plants if the propagation is successful
