I can share one thing, even if the vote doesn't count for anything that matters for the outcome, by voting on a candidate other than the two the election is in fact between, it sends a signal like "I do care, this is the option I like". By voting on other candidates you have likely put effort into exploring the options, seeing who you actually agree with, rather than being blinded by the show.

In the Swedish context, I completely agree with this. Voting blank is so much better than not voting at all, because you are using your vote and showing that you care.
