i wouldn't say there's a golden rule for age gaps between siblings. i have siblings 2 years younger than me, 9 years older than me and 14 years younger than me and i don't think the age gaps have made any of those relationships less valuable, just different. i was just as close with my siblings growing up but ofc it was a little different with each. i didn't fight with the older one and with the one close to my age we fought a lot, but i think both of those are valuable experiences you know? they just teach you different things.
That's interesting! I only have younger brother, and we're 4,5 years apart, which, to me, feels like a perfect age gap for a sibling. I always imagine that a small age gap (like 1,5 years) or big age gap (like 8+) is bad when it comes to siblings, but I don't have anything to base that idea on.
I’ve got 4 sisters and I’m way younger than all of them. My siblings are 44, 41, 30, and 28, and I’m 18. I think it definitely effects our sibling relationships. The 44 and 41 year olds are kind of close, and they aren’t close to the rest of us, the 30 and 28 year olds are close and aren’t close to the rest of us, and I’m not close to any of them. I’m closer to the 30 and 28 year olds, but I’m never included in anything that any of them are doing.
Oh wow, those are some really big age gaps. I guess what you describe is kind of what I mean when I imagine large age gaps to be bad. Your two oldest sisters could literally be your parents.
