FT: Do you think that...

living in a society where so many have higher education influences youths someway? do you think it leads to challenges for youths in the society today as individuals?

i think it's part of why a lot of youths feel pressure at school (in norway) because "no one" wants to end up with the "bad" jobs

inspired by a thread made by @Koolaid few days ago

yes

here there is a lot of pressure to go to uni
but uni is not for everyone, and those who cannot get in or who struggle with uni tend to be more unhappy and dissatisfied with their lives

it also pressures people into making bad decisions, i.e forcing young ppl to invest in a career path when they aren't ready to make that decision

many adults around me barely finished high school or have finished high school only
and if they finished uni and master and whatever , you stayed in serbia stupid , what for

schooling system in my country . ..is terrible
we literally have to pick a career when starting high school, how can a 14 year old know what they want to do in life
no jobs are considered bad, you're lucky to even have a job and feed your family

can't wait to get out of here

yeah definitely the same in norway, don't know though if they tend to be more unhappy and dissatisfied with their lives
my cousin's going to become a mechanic, and he's perfectly fine with it
but his sister some years older are going to uni now and i don't know if she 100% really wanted that

I think with how the education system works with jobs and such puts a lot of pressure on young people.
Focusing on the US since I am from there.^
The whole idea here is like if you only have a high school diploma or a GED then your best bet is working retail or fast food like McDonald's.
There's this belief that it seems a lot of young people have that they absolutely must get a degree in something to do well in life and it unfortunately is somewhat true. Some degrees can be very useless though.

I think the problem seen with this is that a lot of teens go into college not knowing what they want to do. Putting themselves into debt over classes that may end up not doing them any good or eventually dropping out. (bc US college is expensive af.)

I also think that young people are pushing in school because they want good grades and get high education or to enter the line they want.
Then some may be pressured by their parents because they want the child to have A in all subjects and then the child can become stressed and depressed.
I think people can also be pushed if they feel bad about something and that they have to struggle to cope with Everything.

i didn't figure out before this year what i wanna become tbh
but i guess in serbia, as you said, it's fine no matter which job you have because just having a job is good right? i don't know exactly if Serbia's a poor country but I guess Norway's richer... here's it like ending up working at a store or something would be considered "lol" by a lot of people. I don't know but it seems to me like many people in my class want to pick the jobs with good money without even thinking if they are gonna like the job

for me personally, the social is more important than the money when choosing my career path

I think a four year college degree is worth what a high school degree was worth fifty years ago. It's gonna be necessary in another twenty years when robots take over all the low skill jobs. Like, it sucks, but that's how it is. A hundred years ago a fourth grade education was enough. It's not anymore. Robots are gonna take over those jobs. As humanity acquires more knowledge, we're simply gonna have to be learning for longer.

In my country you have different levels of high school and with each one you can get a proper job. Ofcourse the lower the job the lower the salary, but still you can do actually good things. That is very important, but still people feel a lot of pressure to get to the top. When seeking for a job you almost need to have work experience for already 40 years but you need to be young like 20.. And you must have studied in other countries and must have done volunteer jobs. It's just not real anymore and I think it is really annoying like...give people a chance and help them to do their new job as a young person without experience, invest in those young people, do not want them to be the best already.

In twenty years fast food restaurants will all have only one or two employees and everything else will be done by machines.

Well then you fast food restaurant will be the only one I go to! To be honest I think robots are a bad idea for the work with people. People need affection, need real people to help them in real life. Humans need humans. Robots online? Robots behind the scene? Alright, I can understand that. But I do not like the idea of robots taking over everything which involve communication.

Yes, I am expected to get a good education, so I don't end up like my mom - I also feel a high pressure with grades in school, what if I don't meet the requirements of numbers my later education wants?
