Psytrance (psychedelic trance/ psy) is one of my absolute favorite genres of music and I thought it could be great fun to chat about it with all of you !
The genre has so much to offer in terms of different moods, tempos and unique styles. There are so many famous sub-genres of psy.. To name a few: dark psy, hi-tech, forest, full-on, suomisaundi and progressive psytrance. The festivals often look like exhibitions and the intricate, psychedelic artworks are amazing to look at. Love it! ♡
Psy has a very distinctive, energetic feel to it that is very distinguishable in comparison to other trance and techno. Psytrance is known for fast beats, most range from 135 BPM (beats per minute) to around the 160-180 BPM, and some even go way past that. Fnewwwww!
Some of my own favorite subgenres are Hi-Tech, full-on & suomi! These are two of the things on my playlist I get the most excited about when they suddenly come on. Fair warning, the first one is very long and the second is very short n a little weird .. well, can't expect anything less from a finnish psy genre right?
Hi-Tech example & Suomi
I myself have wanted to go to a psytrance festival for a long time, sadly well.. covid. All the psy-events I have been to so far have been an absolute blast & the people I have met have been so lovely so I do absolutely wanna go to more eventually.
To kick off a bit of conversation I've got some questions for all of you (please note that you don't have to answer all or even any of these, I just added them so everyone has a bit to comment on)
- Had you heard about psytrance before?
- Do you enjoy psy? If no, what do you think about electronic music in general?
- If yes, who do you listen to? Share! & Would you ever or have you ever been to a psytrance festival?
I would love to hear all your thoughts!
If you do wanna maybe check out some different sub-genres yourself, I can recommend

& if you really want some tunes or might be getting into psy & haven't heard of ektoplazm before, you might wanna check it out: ektoplazm.com/ (free downloads, lots of nice stuff on there)
