A lot of news sites and social media communities are blocked there, but the chinese government only blocks sites which they deem a "threat" to china, like youtube and google. but sites like vp are irrelevant and thus not blocked.

you can always use vpn (which 90% of the chinese community does) to break through the firewall system, but you'll need a paid one i'm afraid.
