Why is it ok for

that one lgbt club on here to use the word "queer?" Isn't that offensive to gays? Isn't it against the rules to use slurs?

Not trying to attack them.

What do you think?

I agree TBH Queerios kinda doesn't appeal to me just because of the name, but if it were a more inviting name I would have probably joined a long time ago

It's almost like calling it "f^ggots" or something aha.

I mean I'm straight so it's none of my business to tell gays what they should be offended by though.

I've heard some people being offended by it and others whom are not. Queer is not exactly an offensive term though.

but if you are in for reading.

no I'm an lgbtq youth and it's not offensive to me. it's definitely not the same thing as calling someone a f*ggot. even my friends use queer to describe themselves

Queer is a word thats been reclaimed by part of the LGBTQIA+ community since, what, around the 1980s? And is both an umbrella term and a specific identifier for gender nd orientation.

i identify as queer. Which is why i put the word "queer" in the name.

queer has been used as slur towards LGBT+ people for many, many years, like it has meant so many negative things and i understand why people don't want to use it to describe themselves or their sexuality at all.
other as myself wants to reclaim it and turn into something positive, but that doesn't mean that can erase the words violent and degrading history.
use with caution and only if you're LGBT+.
otherwise it's q slur, not the full use of the word. likewise "q slur" or "q***r"

It depends on the use.
It used to be a slur? Can still be one, but people identify with it now.

I just go with the flow on this identity stuff. I don't fully buy into it, but I'm not against it. (gender-wise)
I do identify as bisexual though.
