Admin Candidate: Tess
Account deleted

Bonjour everyone!

I would like to begin by thanking those individuals whom had made the step to take the time to vote for me into the next round of this election process, even if it’s a tad odd to have an election for an administrative position. I know some of you may have voted for me due to the fact I am a friend, but I would like you to take the time to read everyone’s reason for taking the position on before deciding in this round. I am strongly against the role being taken up as a popularity contest as many have shared so please take your time when voting.

To the many of you whom have been waiting to read some commentary about me to place me in the scheme of things against the other candidates, please take the time to consider all candidates. Give them time to respond. Look at how they’ve been over the course of their time on this site. Could you see them holding the position? Etc. I would hate for you to vote for someone that is solely based on their friendship with you or the fact someone else had voted for them– it’s your call for this sort of thing so please make it actually count. Admin on Virtual Popstar is considerably different then what a typical Admin on a site should be considered so I’m going to project my answers for both if that makes sense since I do believe the position could flourish to more administrative than a glorified moderator in the future if Kaj and Kim feel as though they need additional assistance in running this server.

Needless to say, my name is Theresa, but please call me Tess. I’m 23 years old on January 4th, 2017. I currently reside in Massachusetts, USA which means I do follow the Eastern Standard Timezone. I fluently speak English though I do have basic knowledge of Mandarin and French. In addition, I’m currently a full time graphic designer for a healthcare solution business that is based in South Africa but has a newly established branch in America. I am also a mother. As for general habits, I enjoy coming up with ideas and general improvements for user experience; that’s something I love doing whether someone finds it rather annoying. I have always been someone to follow the rules on many of the sites or servers I have been a part of so naturally I do see myself fitting for the position.

An admin position is nothing new to me. I currently manage several sites, excluding my own portfolio site, as an administrator but these are for static sites and on the coding side of the equation. You can check those at: sillysallys.com, sillyacademy.com, adoptafosterchild.com. I’ve been an actual community admin for numerous servers that my fiancé has created for Minecraft; those communities have ranged from 10 to 50+ users. I’ve been a Facebook page manager and group admin for years. I was also a moderator on GoSupermodel Cosmo server managing several of the departments along side other moderators. I’ve held secretary position in my high school’s SkillsUSA chapter, worked for Corporate Security, Risk Management, and Fraud Protection and mentored Japanese students around Boston. If you want more on my professional background, you find all of that information by clicking here.

In relation to Virtual Popstar, I started on here the day this server was produced on December 27th, 2012. I have not been around constantly due to personal reasons such as finishing up my degree, occupying my time with various other responsibilities, a pregnancy, handling five jobs somehow in the midst of all of that, etc. However, I have held many of the badges previously – a moderator, event team, news team, designer, and youtube team member. I’ve been more active recently since I’m trying to figure out how to preoccupy my time that is more productive than sitting around staring at a TV in my free time. Virtual Popstar has a lot of potential to grow with the new admin in place that can really work with Kaj and Kim to impact the community for the better–it could also go the opposite direction with this election since the volunteer admin role has access to various controls that may not be suited for everyone.

As for me being Admin, I plan to work along side Kim and Kaj to help improve what currently issues we have on this server such as the translations that haven’t been updated in the Javascript. I’d also would like to update the rules to fix the contradicting matters between the Rules and Consequence threads making sure all moderators, Kaj, and Kim are on the same page when it comes to those issues. I’d also strive for more functions as Admin or for the moderators after Kim and Kaj trusted me fulfilling the current needs for the role since they may not have all the time to assist every server needs – such as code uploading, handling inappropriate usernames, inappropriate blogs or profiles, etc.

I’m always for enhancements on Virtual Popstar especially when it comes to user experience. Any owner should want their users to be able to understand how to use the site without much hassle which has a lot to do where things are located in the hierarchy of the site. I plan to start coming up with ways to improve those interaction with user flow and logical reasons for things to be where they are. Of course, these improvements would not be the first thing on the list to tackle with the VP app being established but the owners should focus on creating the actual site more easier on the user first before the application. I would like Virtual Popstar to flourish into a site that is more enjoyable than just the community and the clothing items that exist.

I’m typically patient and not biased, but I do find my blunt habits and the fact I really love challenges to be the route of my flaws when it comes to things. In my own opinion, I take initiative too often, asking far too many questions for my own good, applying for things for my own amusement, rather selfish and will definitely prioritize my family before VP as it should be. I do take a lot on my plate but it should come as no surprise. I’m brutally fine when things shit hits the fan which doesn’t always seem like a good trait to possess.

So that’s where Tess stands and I'm not sorry this is rather long.
Feel free to ask me questions.

Q&A

How long were you a moderator on Virtual Popstar?
December 2012 - September 2014 so a year and 10 months.

If a hacker comes to VP, what would you do?
This depends on the type of hacker we are talking about and the amount of functions given to the Admin. If it's someone leaking codes, you need to take a look at the people whom have access to that information before calling it a hacker. If it's in regards to passwords, you'd have to take into consideration if the individual shared it or not. Likelihood you would time out the account that the hacker is supposedly on to seclude any possible damage the hacker could do to that account even though it wouldn't stop them from deleting the account I don't believe. It would stop them from sending money or items out to other users. I would have to take a look at their IP address to double check but chances are if they are a hacker it's probably a proxy to begin with. I'm not entirely sure if Admin has a way to check all IPs used on account or if that's just Kaj and Kim.
How good can you handle pressure in hard situations? How you will make them clear?
I've held 5 jobs as a full time Graphic Design student so I'm pretty sure I can handle stress that is thrown at me by users. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by make them clear.

Do VP need advertisement? why? where? how?
Virtual Popstar can always benefit from advertisements. I specifically think they should do advertisements since our community seems to be just former goSupermodel players so everyone always compare the two together. It would add fresh opinions and new faces to our every growing community. You can advertise on a lot of gaming websites. The only issue is whether or not Kaj wants to be more kid-friendly since some of those sites require the sites that advertise there to comply with safety rules.

You give someone a warning for using vulgar language in a shout. They did not like this one bit, so they passive aggressively spent the next 15 minutes going through the forums to find and report anyone who has swore in their thread post with "you gave me a warning, so give them one now too" as the reasoning for their report every time. You have 15 reports from them in the report inbox. How do you handle this?
Message the individual to inform them that "Shouts, forum titles, and blog titles are considered inappropriate for such material. If post in threads contain vulgar language that are not directly towards someone, then they are fine to be posted. If you continue to abuse the report button just to point out acceptable material, you will be given a time-out since it is considered spam. It's perfectly acceptable to submit a report if the individual did actually break the rules where any of the moderators or I may haven't read yet. Thank you."

What do you think your biggest weakness would be with being Admin?
I answered this in the last paragraph, but essentially I'm too blunt.

How many vacations would you take per year on average, and would you still go on VP? And if you did still check up on VP, would you be willing to do a little work if you had to?
This is a tricky question to answer. It's a volunteer unpaid role so you shouldn't be expecting the individual to tie themselves down. If you expect that then I will definitely not be your candidate; I'm not one to be abused by labor without breaks. I've had enough experiences where bosses take advantage of that. Needless to say typically most vacations I sit on a couch with a laptop browsing the Internet. I don't have a lot of extra money or time to really go on an adventure every time I'm off. Since I live in the US, I follow all US federal holidays and usually have 15 days per year for PTO. I'm officially out of PTO until at least July since I've used them up for my trip to TN and maternity leave. As for doing work when I'm away, I'm always working so just add it to the plate.

How do you think your graphic design and coding knowledge could help in terms of people cheating on games or the hacker problems, etc, if at all?
As a graphic designer with coding knowledge, you can suggest ways to fix games and problem solve for such instances. At my work, we performing testing and debug the programs before we continue development. Otherwise, the likelihood of there being problems are a lot more especially it being healthcare related. The content in most of those applications are highly confidential for patients so if their information is leaked or could be hacked, it becomes a huge problem within the hospital or healthcare industry. We could be sued by the client who is sued by a patient for not having that under control. Those tactics could be applied to Virtual Popstar, but it depends if Kaj is willing to compile with those suggestions. Overall, graphic design and coding doesn't exactly help stop a hacker when you are only a volunteer admin with limited functions so it would be hard to say they could fully.

Also, are there things that you have learned from motherhood so far that you think might help you be admin?
Definitely. Motherhood is a lot more complex than any of the positions or roles I've ever had in my life even when I babysat it's different as the actual parent.

• You can't please everyone even if it's your own offspring. They will always be disappointed by something and that's something you have to come to terms with as they test your patience, love, and tolerance for their behavior.
• You will always be amazed at the individual's growth. A lot of people don't always show their talent or highlights but it's exciting to see them when they decided to show them and recognize them on that skill.
• You will have to deal with responsibility that can't go away on a 24/7 clock. In the case of a child, it is pretty permanent unless you want to go to jail for child abuse or worse offenses until they reach 18 in the US. So right now, I guess you could say I'm somewhat a slave to my child until 2034 if he isn't tired of me by then.
• You will deal with crap. In the case of a child, the crap is pretty literal. It's not exactly pretty but it's amusing to see what mess occurs within the day.

since i asked kim to look into this and i'm 99% sure she ignored me lol, have you had an previous timeouts or warnings and if so, when was the most recent one?
I haven't had any timeouts or warnings on Virtual Popstar. There were definitely times I thought I did deserve them but none were handed to me.

You'd be surprised at the range of users that can occur on online. haha.

The only unique question that was asked of me was my duration and a moderator/admin scenario. The rest were asked to each candidate or so I thought. Please don't assume that people have faith in me. If they do, they really need to share the faith so I can feel the same about myself hahaha. I'm constantly on the verge of am I doing this right? ...especially when it comes to parenting atm. Today was a test of my patience with a migraine dealing with someone who has literally covered me with shit and screaming that I didn't have his bidding done in 30 seconds or less then not wanting to take a nap. You can't just get a moment of silence with parenting. Sigh.

I want you to know I am not voting for you because you're my friend. I've read every single person's "speech" and I think you are truly the most qualified.
