No, I understand that it can be helpful in certain situations. But for those of us whom it's affecting negatively, there should be an option to turn it off or at least to save specific messages.

Oh, really? I didn't notice it until the beginning of this year. Aren't they at least getting deleted faster now, or am I merely delusional?

From now on, I will. But we're communicating via Facebook now, not via messages here. I wasn't aware that our conversations would get deleted, so when they did it was a bit too late to prevent.
