The reason we did mainly codes for the 1st year of Instagram was up and running is because I was alone on it, we had 3 active users who did stuff whereas me and another member were trying to revive SMT as a whole team last year on our own. So the only thing we had the energy to do was codes because they're easy and we needed followers on it as it was created freshly in February last year. So for the 1st year we were actually just trying to get people from in here to follow us, so that when we now want to promote ourselves, we come off as a serious account and as we're "trying", you know?
Of course its set a standard that we're just doing codes, so I apologize for that. I never intended to solely do codes, but it was too much to try and revive a team with just 1 other member with a bunch of inactive members hanging on our shoulders who weren't doing their parts. Not to mention, we've had so much that's gotten in our way, that it's amazing we even managed to keep SMT going. As said, for a WHOLE year, there were only 3 active members + the designer. That's so few people to manage a whole team where we're supposed to deal with 4 social medias.
I was trying to build up Instagram and I might've done it the wrong way, but a part of me also feels like I succeeded in doing that. The account got 500+ followers and that feels good. Despite maybe half or more are only following for codes, I'm glad they are either way. It's very supportive in a way.
That aside, now that year passed and we're running on our 2nd year and NOW we have everything we need to start promoting and getting into the grooves of what SMT is all about. We're over 10+ all time active members with amazing inspiration in works and ideas being able to set in motion.
I've never written this down for anyone to understand before, so I get if it's sudden, but this is why we gave out so many codes for the passed year. We're still going to do them, but our main focus lies in promoting and making our Instagram "attractive" for outsiders to get into.

Also SMT shouldn't have to use codes to get people to look at their pages?
(like I said before... this is a comment on how SMT used to be.. I don't have a problem with SMT at the moment)
I just have a little word to put in here Quinzelle wrote:

My main complaint is it distracts from the purpose of SMT. It was initially created to help promote VP and to draw in new users, whereas I feel like codes only attract current users. Solitude wrote:
