It would be more fair to take them back and only give to the people who payed.

He really just shouldn't have made the mistake in the first place. Now everyone is going to be upset/angry no matter what he does. People who got the items without paying are going to be upset if the items are taken away and the people who have paid are going to be upset if the items aren't taken away. I agree that taking the items away from the ones who didn't pay is the better thing to do, but there might be some other options as well? Like giving the people who paid another different set of items or giving them a free set of credits? Idk. It wouldn't be the end of the world to have the items taken away from me, but I'd be a little disappointed. Kind of like giving a kid a puppy and then being like "oh wait, it's not yours anymore"

but if you think about those who didn't get anything at all it's like you go get a bunch of kids and give everyone a puppy except one, and some of the kids gave all their spare money for the puppy and the rest just got it for free

That is true. I feel like this is going to be a hard thing to resolve. This shouldn't have even happened at all. Can we all just go back in time?

Honestly, everyone knows that this is a major mistake. Whether you paid for this or not you know it's unfair. Taking away or a refund is in my opinion the best option. I'm sorry if people feel like taking back what you gave is unfair, but getting items that you weren't supposed to get in first place is even more unfair especially considering the fact that you're getting items for free that people paid for. 
I do agree with you actually. I didn't really think about it from other people's perspectives when I made my first post, which was kind of stupid of me.
