swastika??
TheWayfaringStranger

Now, I want to know why our teachers/education system in my very messed up country (u.s.a) never thought to mention that the swastika had other meanings when they drilled the importance of WWII into our heads, and that it wasn't just related to the Nazi Regime. I feel like that could have a lead us into a very meaningful discussion on various religions. Too bad all that matters is tests. sad

are there really ppl who did not know that the Nazis took the symbol from religion though?? honest question because i though this was general knowledge.

This is the first time i've ever heard that. That symbol has always been associated with the Nazi Regime for me, unfortunately.

i think it's hilarious how people are reacting to this
like srsly

even though as not so religious person nor historic either, I did listen enough at school to know where it's originally from and yes when someone mentioned it in a forum it was hard to un-see it in a bad way for a while, but then again - it's originally a sacred symbol which was "stolen"

what i meant, anyway, is that you can't expect people to drop parts of their culture because youre uncomfortable with it, whatever the reason for that might be. yea this is kinda farfetched on fucking vitualpopstar.com but entitlement is universal
(i just want to say, again, that my pov was never about denying hindus of using this symbol, but rather questioning if it was a fitting symbol to use on a site where very few users are hindus and many probably associate it mainly with nazism - but i guess it can be a learning experience for those who didn't know, at least today when the item is actually connected to learning abt holi)
this was kinda @ harness who tried to piss at my leg because she apparently didnt understand. and yeh. i understand your point w/ a lot of vp users being euro-americans, thats why i said its sortof farfetched.

noone called solovey out ok we re just saying it makes us feel uncomfortable due to a historical background. if you shes freaking out cause of that its not my problem
Tbh I don't think Americans should complain because WW II wasn't even in America. But anyway like I said the symbols differ due to the 45 degree rotation that the Nazis used. So they might look alike, but you can't deny everything that looks like something you feel negative towards.
Americans have every right to have an opinion on Nazis lol. My grandpa fought in WWII.

ah shame. The symbol is not exclusively used in Hinduism though, although it has been found there first. But apparently it has been found in Mayan history too, among many others.

why are y'all like this lmao
it is a religious symbol, among other things

now that u know that, why is there still an issue. if u dont like it sell the item or smthin

I mean, Vig even did a lovely write up about it a page or so back. I understand if you don't want to use the hands, but I think it's pretty unnecessary to bring down the folks here who use and love it for its original purpose by pitching a fit about it :/
yeah, agreed. i mean if ur uncomfortable fine but like, the world is a lot bigger than just the western world and sometimes. other religions or cultures. have been appropriated to symbolise other things :_/

the item doesn't have the correct swastika though lmao, if it was meant to be a religious symbol the designer could have at least done a little more research before adding it

*clarification* i know the artist probably meant no harm, but it being the incorrect swastika makes it look like she went "oh a hindu item, an excuse to draw swastikas!!"

The Hindu Swastika doesn't necessarily look like that afaik. It can also look like Solovey designed it. There's many variations. As long as it doesn't have the 45degree turn, which is the main difference. Also a Hindu Swastika is still the same even if the image is mirrored. A nazi symbol only goes one way.

But for example here you can also see a hindu swastika:
