I truly feel bad that you all have had terrible personal problems. But we all have. 
I mentioned this to Sarah when she asked for my opinion but, 
if you have problems and know it's affecting you and your work - stand down. 
It's better for you in the long run to stand down and reapply later when you have time and your life is on track.

I always felt that being a mod means putting your emotions aside to think rationally. 
It is avoiding your job and that shouldn't be fair. You've admitted yourself you're bad at confrontation + shy within forums etc. - maybe this isn't the job for you.

but you cannot simply avoid a job you signed up for when people are relying upon you. You have to know when to stand down. 

Chandelier:
there are other parts of being mod besides just the forums. Most of the time, I'm only able to be active at night when there's not as much to moderate. I also am better at doing a lot of the messaging that has to be done. For example, when there's someone in a lot of distress because of a comment that has been made to them, I make special effort to try to talk to them and try to help them feel okay again. I do want to be more active in forums, which is why I suggested something in the teamwork thread that I thought would help everyone be able to get to that place. 

I respectfully disagree about my choice not to read the documents however. At some point, I do have to consider my personal health and wellbeing. Choosing not to read a document that I've been warned against because of how it will impact me is not avoiding my job or thinking irrationally, in my opinion. That is a choice for my emotional health and has nothing to do with being a mod. My duty as a mod is not to set aside my emotions anytime I'm brought with something in vp, it is to set aside my emotions when it comes to how I engage in giving TO, warnings, etc. Since I refrained from reading the document and felt there was conflict of interest regarding it, I refrained from being in discussion with the moderators while they were making any decisions regarding the document.

  That's the thing. I asked if I had time to decide and mentioned that I had a lot going on. I was told yes I had time to decide especially since we had initially been given optimistic results about some of the health issues. This was all done one evening. Then, I went to work the next day, logged in after and saw a badge, an announcement made about it all, and a post saying I would introduce myself as admin soon.  I was not given any chance to give my answer and then I just felt like I was stuck in the position.

This is a much nicer way that I should've written my post but ah well x3 
But I've had this experience myself recently. 
It's not fun and it's hard. But you have to lighten your work load or else it does not work.
