it's been a little more reasonable bc i barely see the auction thread on the main page on the weekdays. i can excuse sundays for not being able to keep up with the bids though since it gets rapid fire at that point.

making a dedicated discord server would at least shift the responsibility a bit imo since then you can say "should've checked the discord". i can definitely join however i haven't worked with discord bots a bunch so i can't help on the backend setting up itself sadly. it would technically require more work from you though since you still have to update the bids on the forum for the ppl who don't want to join the server.
I know discord bots pretty well I'd say, the help that I'd require would be more so to act as a bidder (and have a good 5 to 10 people join) for a good week to see that all is working and to simulate something
I think I'll make a separate thread with a poll, asking people who'd like to join and help check if it can be something viable, and on the way ask if people would be interested in that

I won't mind the "extra work" as it'd be only maintaining the bot, and updating the bids from there here, which is pretty similar to what we do now? instead of update from a server, we update from singular posts here

I really like this idea

The only thing I could think of is a discord bot but that would require people to use discord and enter a server dedicated for that, which not everyone would agree with, but it would be better automated

But we'll need tests for that, which I am down for trying IF anyone here wants to join and help me test it so later on we can ask the rest of the community if it's something that could work for majority of people
so you want to move the auctions to discord? I don’t think all have discord 👀

As a user I don't like this idea at all. First of all, not everyone has discord so that's already a major no-no for this. So changing auctions to dc, umm.... No. Auctions has been working just fine here. Using discord for auctions makes things even more complicted. I'd prob just stop following auctions if it was to move to dc. ofc i already have discord but if I were a user that don't have already, I wouldn't be thrilled to be forced to create discord just for vp auctions

We can't regulate what happens on a discord server. There was a while there where vp related discord servers were banned for this reason. Plus some people don't have access to discord which makes it not inclusive.

With all due respect, how does this improve how things are running now if you still have to update the threads anyway?

No
I merely suggested an idea for people that complained about the automation of the auctions, it would not be implemented if people disagree with it or can't easily access it
I also stated before that not everyone will agree with it.

Thank you for the feedback, I did think about the point of accessibility which as you've said, is the main problem. since not everyone here has an account on that platform, and some might have an account but not be able to understand the configuration of a bot and it's commands

I wish I could bring such a bot here to make things easier but the code would not let us do so.
I will just say that we had quite a few people complain about how the auctions are not updated almost all the time which is sadly impossible with how the threads are, and the fact that it's all done manually, but some would argue that it's also people's responsibility to check if they want certain items.

Regulation on a discord server is very much possible, hence why teams have them and use them actively, and if we're talking auction thread, such a server would have only 3 channels to begin with, the auction channel itself, a configuration channel for the bot, and a help channel, so I don't understand that point
The other point is very valid and which is why it most likely won't be used

Bots are great for automating something like an auction, we have it here on the form of the monthly auction, it's not a bot but a code that automates stuff
It would mean we only have to look at the bids from the bot and input them here, as people would be able to see the top bids at any moment with a command,
But sadly the problem with that is that it's not the easiest thing to learn for everyone.

We see positive and negative feedback on the idea, which we appreciate a lot.
Such a solution might solve one problem, but bring another issue so we won't use that approach.

do you think it would be viable to have a master thread that is uncommentable except by admins for price updates? that way people who WANT to use discord for immediate notifications could, and ALSO have the thread like always for people who would rather bid in game.

then the master thread could link both bidding options and people could add it to their watched threads to see if theres been an update, for in game bidders?

without the flood of items theyre not bidding for?

That seems like the same idea with extra steps and extra work, for both us the admins, and you guys,
I personally do not mind it at all? but I cannot say the same for anyone that would want to bid, or hell, even Tess having to deal with that lmao
