SMT: Instagram announcement!

Okay, I'm not even going to quote you because I am going to say this in general.

It's not about exclusitivity, it's not about contradicting the purpose of the social media, this is a one time thing. This serves purpose to it being new and freshly introduced. Of course we want to gain followers one way, how would we do that without a closed account? When it's open, people are free to only use it for the codes and leave. We didn't want that now and we had the option to close it. Why wouldn't we? It's a golden opportunity and if it's one time, why does it matter?

These outfits are not exclusive. You can get them cheap as they were free gifts. If it was exclusive, we would have put a certain number of people who would be able to claim it. That would be exclusitivity even if it was open. You are not forced to open an account even if you wanted to participate, who knows what happens in your inboxes. If one weren't able to claim it for certain reasons, it's no big deal to ask someone who claimed it? It's not the preferred way to get them for our part, but if you really couldn't get an account, then so be it.

why do the followers matter if not to attract activity back to virtualpopstar? Do the social media accounts exist to collect followers on their respective websites independently, or are meant to promote the presence of vp on social media? If followers are more important to the SMT than the function they're meant to serve, so be it. I'm not throwing a tantrum here, I just don't see how demanding followers at the cost of public visibility serves to promote the site. If you put up fences and someone complains, sure, you can protest that people can always jump the fence, but you will significantly decrease the number of people who bother to get around it, and that does not promote a welcoming community.

I can only figure the instagram account exists NOT to promote vp, but to reward existing vp users who happen to be active on instagram. I don't agree with that, but I'm not on the team. Still, as a vp user who is NOT active on instagram, I have every right to voice my objection. Objective complete.

It does not exist to collect followers. I can promise you that. It's just a headstart and easier to work with, than to work from scratch. We also want people to follow us to see what we'll be doing there, that wouldn't be possible for them if they don't follow because we won't bring any highlighting attention to it on here. It's for their purpose as well as ours.

And why are you so short sighted at this point? I clearly stated we won't be having a closed account forever. It's just in the start, to have a headstart. That's not a bad thing and very many people actually do this sort of stuff on Instagram. It's also a way to get people interested in following us. I, obviously, agree you have every right to state your opinion, but it's coming out rather ungrateful. We could've chosen not to do anything fancy, drop the codes and just give you a plain Instagram to follow. That does not catch interest at all, therefore we spiced it up.

This is a very good example of not being able to please everyone. I can tell for sure, if we would have done this another way, people would still find something to complain about.

Also everything Ceylin has stated above me, is true.

Let me spell this out for you one more time since being far-sighted is just as dysfunctional as being near-sighted: I DO NOT HAVE AN INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT, and therefore I CANNOT GET ANYTHING FROM THIS unless someone throws me a bone via pm. Why the hell would I be grateful for something I can't have when my purpose for posting was to protest the unavailability of the offer? Talk about entitlement! You're right; you can't please everyone. So why are you so upset about ONE person who's "ungrateful" for the inconvenience your team put in place? Was it really so difficult to explain that the measure was intended to be temporary and why that decision was made? Ceylin managed to pull it off politely, but if Instagram is more responsive to a brattier tone, you'll have to forgive me for not knowing.

How is it that someone can object to being unable to participate and explicitly state that they do not understand the reasoning behind a policy and your response is to call that person short-sighted and ungrateful? Maybe you should keep the account private.

p.s. if you "clearly stated we won't be having a closed account forever" it must have been earlier in the thread, because you never said that to me. Pretty short-sighted to assume everyone will read through five pages of this thread. Perhaps you should update the first post, for visibility.

You know what, I'm geniunely sorry. I was in a heat of a moment and forgot my manners. It's my first day and therefore I got caught up in that "one person". I was not trying to be rude, but it's frustrating when it feels like someone is not getting your point.

Having a "bone" thrown at you in your inbox isn't harder than asking someone for the code. Like I said, it's not preferred, but if you really can't make an account, then we still are grateful for the users we have here, even if it seems like I especially don't right now, and I'm sorry for that.

Well at least that heat was on me instead of someone who clings to grudges like the memory of their first child's face, because you definitely don't want to lose your cool working pr. I appreciate your humility, but it's just as frustrating for others when someone expects you to understand something they never explained to you. You were too fast to see my edit so pay no mind my reactive tone, but you seriously cannot expect everyone to read through five pages of a thread like this before posting. Maybe you guys could avoid another one of me by adding some information to the original post. Maybe you'd just get more whiners, but if you make that information available then that whining should at least be focused on disagreeing with that policy instead of "what is this and why is this happening"

not gonna pretend like i didn't throw any heat but you took on some social responsibility i didn't when you joined the team, so again i'm really glad you see that conduct doesn't go well with your position, because people who refuse to recognize any wrongdoing are the worst and don't learn from anything. you're working with people and those things are crazy, so i wish you luck and a pair of oven mitts. use them wisely
