all  I can think is that - with the numbers - you get from 'A' 1 to 'Z' 25 by adding or subtracting 24 
but that doesn't really work 

the only other thing I can think is that, the letters swap. B, A - Z, Y - but I've already tried that and that loses me.

Btw, it's a bit of a contradiction for people saying "it has nothing to do with numbers" then saying "pay attention to the number"
