hmm...I think you and many of the people who are stuck are approaching it the same way. 
The next hint will be posted in 5 minutes, hope that helps to clarify the pattern. 

a good way to test if your first row is correct is to plug in what you have into the blank spaces and see if it somewhat looks like words or if it's just gibberish.
